For sure it's always better to be overly careful than terribly sorry so kudos to the authorities. Just hope their is no injustice meted out to any of the staffers of all those establishments within the mall, and that no one loses more than they can bare!
If city centre failed the inspection test then just imagine the situation of the other smaller and bigger malls and supermarkets and the corner stores that are in a much worse situation and some without any fire or safety equipment
ok 1st problem they want fire proof doors in every shop......but shop walls when original built not fire proof standard, so now only doors will be fire proof as per international specifications for H&S so if there is fire all doors standing & wall burn down?? ha ha yes everything is not making sense here. also in a shopping mall there should be a fire extinguisher every 20 metres also every new work they want to do must be approved by civil defense who have no idea about anything anyway. the civil defense here dont even have a basic ISO 9001 cert!!! let alone H&S standards...but inshallah they will learn & qatar will not only be beautiful country but safe also.......inshallah
It is obvious, available HSE organisation and management must plan drastic action for improvement with the support by authorities. Hopefully, the HSE major players since Doha was developed must accept new changes. All HSE practitioners and sectors related with HSE must broaden their mind set. HSE culture among the most managements must be upgraded. HSE analysis, proper provision of safety budget and look ahead planning should be observed before starting any project.
Furthermore, HSE industry shouldnt be controlled by certain people in order to ensure no biases and compliances is took place. Personnel with good field experience and management support to implement the HSE standard is highly required.
My Leisure Breakaway option after the closure My 1 and only gym Fitness First at City Center was went for dining places. What worse is, No gym class, extra eat! ;)
Amazing thing is that how all this public buildings opened and operate in the first place, qatar ministry of defense not exist yet that time????? or maybe sleeping.
city centre will not open for 3 months!!! they will keep inspecting only the progress weekly. every shop must have 2 signs & a fire proof safety door imagine there are 300+ shops inside & every shop must conform to these standards.....my husband is 1 of the main contractors dealing with this & thats what he told me. Also Landmark is doing the same but because they showed better progress they were allowed to remain open but have to submit weekly reports. Villagio will be rebuilt, but not where the play area was & they are hoping to open by december 2012. Hyatt plaza will remain open as they have employed a brilliant HSE & he is supervising all the works that will conform to international fire safety standards this team is with velosi & also white young who are a british company authorised by the civil defense here to work as the principle contractors on the malls ....hope this info helps u all out in the meantime go to the gym, beach & enjoy saving your riyals! lol
