Hi All,

Is there any Scuba Diving Instructors in Qatar, I am thinking about moving out and setting up a Scuba Diving Business. Is it difficult to setup your own business in Qatar, I am British. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Mick

Opening a business here in Qatar is not an easy straight forward matter.

You have to have a Qatari partner who retains 51% of the business while you get 49%.

Partnerships can happen one of two ways:

1) Either you pay him an annual percentage to be your sponsor - The percentage amount is usually up to the sponsor

2) Or you pay him a monthly amount - again, the amount is up to the sponsor.

You have to becareful who you are dealing with and make sure your contracts are water tight. Deal with Lawyers you trust - and make sure they find lawyers who translate Eng/Arabic correctly, as all documentation HAS to be in Arabic.

You also have to be able to trust the sponsor. That one day, he doesn't up and tell you to get lost, the business is his now. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, contract or no, you don't really have a leg to stand on, as Qataris rights usually rule.

I would suggest you don't bother with Electrical work in Qatar.... Your nationality doesn't fall into the pay bracket of a Electrician.

Best bet is maybe to open your own business with this too.... That way you can hire who you want and do the business yourself.

Hi Eto17,

Thank you for your reply.

My expertise is Domestic Electrical Installations, have you seen or do you know if there are plans for New Houses and Apartments. As you in HR could you give me any tips on the best way to find work. I am British currently living in Ireland.

I have sent you a private message.

Thanks again for your help and becoming a Buddy.

Best wishes,

Mick

hi, Mickav!

In terms of constructions, Qatar is on the go. Especially that their terms are for the 2022 Olympics. So, I guess, you're in a right place and right time.

With the scuba diving business, I could introduce you to my instructor who's working in a Scuba Dive Shop. In that way it could give you a lot of options in starting business.

Hi Amer.omar,

Thank you for you kind reply.

The information you supplied was very informative and interesting.

Your reply was very encouraging and you are very generous to offer your help. This would be extremely useful coming from a Man who has lived in Qatar for 30 years.

What would your advice be on a British Citizen starting a new business in Qatar, is there a lot of official paper work and are there special requirements and regulations.

Do you think it would be best to be in Qatar to set up new business or could I start the process, here in Ireland where I am living at the moment.

Do you Scuba Dive yourself?

I will send this as a personal message as well.

Kindest regards,

Mick

Hi Eto17

Thank you for your reply.

Do you Scuba Dive in Qatar, if you have what has your experience been? I am not familiar with Qatar Waters or Dive Areas.

I want to come out to Qatar to work as an Electrician on Domestic Installations while running a part time Scuba Diving Business with a view to Scuba Diving Full Time.

In your opinion, am I right in saying there is going to be a lot of work in Qatar and do you think there would be room for another Scuba Diving Business.

I see your in HR, I don't suppose you could advise me on the best way to secure work in Qatar. Do I need to come to Qatar or could I do it from Ireland. Are there many new Houses and Apartments being built as this would be my area of expertise.

Any advice you can give would really be appreciated.

Sorry for all the questions?

Best wishes,

Mick

There's a few scuba diving shops in Qatar that has a number of scuba diving instructors, too. Most of them are PADI Members. I know that there's one BSAC group here but no information much about them. I'm a PADI Member.
