Are passports to be kept by employers?
I pity my Filipina friend employed at PISQ as a teacher. The company owned by Dosari and managed by CEO Edgardo Basilio and his Filipina finance officer Villa Inguillo seemed to ignore the policy of not keeping the passports of their employees. Employees passports are still kept in vault and being kept by Inguillo according to my friend.
It is pitiful that the company imposed a mandatory 3 year contract or service before the employees can avail of free ticket going home. My company gives us a yearly back and forth ticket for free.
It is pitiful that the employees are cramped in their accommodations. Living condition is worst since most of them wake up at 3AM according to the source just to have a decent shower else you will be late.
Authorities must check on this. ATTN: Philippine embassy.
No. It should be with the owner. Some companies are keeping it for safekeepping but this should not be.
It is not a "policy"! It is a law. Keeping the passport is illegal. The fine is QR 5.000!!
"Might is Right" the rule above all
maybe they kept it just to ensure that it will not be misplace or lost by the owner...and besides, even you hold your passport, still you can't exit from doha unless you have
the valid exit permit....
if they have problems on their accomodation, they can bring it to the attention of the authorities or baladiya...
more power and good luck....
Passports are personal. It should not separate its owner because it is a personal international identification of every individual that enters foreign territory. But there are company policies that has to be complied.
