Moving taking furniture along or buy from Q
By netfragerin •
Dear all,
We are considering moving to Qatar from Europe and began planning about it. We would be getting unfurnished accommodation and allowance for furnishing. What would be the best option -- to take furniture from here or buying from there? I have been reading forums and got a feeling that the quality of furnitures in Qatar is not that great.curious to know your experience .. and any advice in this regard.
thanks a lot

Thank you for your advice. I shall be trying to bring as much as possible and only if necessary buy from there. yes there is allowance.
Thank you spybot. It is said that we will be given a container for shipping items. I assumed then that the cost is taken by them. but i have to check it now.
I am ever so glad that I made the decision to bring furniture with me and not listened to people here, my one regret is that i did not ship more! We inherited a bedroom suite (previous occupants had bought it in Home centre)when we moved into our Villa - actually we had to pay for it. Evrything bought at home centre has fallen apart and been repaired many times by my husband.
If you have the allowance - bring all you can, mattresses, beds, etc
Furnitures in Qatar are awesome, please check Almana Maples, they are bringing the best & Qulaity furnitures items and others from all over the world specially in europe...
If you intend living here for the rest of your life, yes bring the furniture with, if not just buy here. Furniture here is of a ok price however the quality can be very shoddy. The cost factor for shipping is the question and if your company will be paying for shipping?
Furniture here is generally over-priced and limited in selection. Having said that, there are also some interesting, unique pieces that you can find at more out-of-the-way shops and souks (usually wooden pieces).
I would suggest splitting the difference--bring beds, mattresses, soft furnishings, and electronics; buy tables, chairs, bookcases, carpets here.
