Looking for Villa/House/Compound in Doha
Hi Folks !
Will be moving to Doha soon and would appreciate any UP-DATED views/comments on life in 'compounds'.
We will arrive with employment contract and have
15000 QAR to spend on housing.
Have pretty much decided on compound life due to security/swiming pool/ facillities /other similar people around etc.
We have two kids 6 & 12.
So would be gratefull for any fresh views on componds to look out for - or componds to avoid. Standards of maintenance and general good feeling and willing to assist.
I do not want to save any money on my housing allowance.
Would prefer to spend all and live in comfort/peace. Would even cosider paying all on rent and paying bills myself.
Thanks in advance for any any comments/guidance.
Hope one day I can do the same !

Dear Djeja,
you may want to consider a half-way solution like Al Sadd or New Salata (off the Ramada junction). Check Bilal Villas and Bilal Mews compounds (www.ahbqatar.com). There are many shops (Royal Plaza, Emporium, etc), supermarkets (Mega Markt, Family Food Centre, etc)and other conveniences in these areas (La Cigale Hotel, Ramada, etc).
Regards,
My name is Craig, MD of Mirage Properties, a well established real estate company here in Qatar.
Sounds like you have a little dilema with schooling one side and work the other side of Doha..?
With traffic the way it is here you need to consider whether school/work journey will be a single trip or will you/your wife run 2 cars. If the first then you'll need somewhere near to the school, if the second then somewhere between the 2 may work better for you.
We are an independent agent, having both our own properties and those of other landlords for lease so can give impartial advice on the best compounds and locations. If you take a look on our website www.mirageproperty.com, you'll find a good choice of properties complete with high res images and, in most cases, google map locations. Once you've had a look, feel free to contact us for further info, either via QL or direct from the website.
I wish you and your family good luck with your move to Doha and look forward to being of assistance.
Regards
Craig at Mirage
Have you selected a compound? Are you in Doha yet?
I am a Hamad Medical employee and for two months we've been living in Al Sadd, which at first looks is pretty rough, but after you get used to it is really very liveable. Excellent groceries nearby at Food Palace, which means you don't have to drive anywhere (yes, traffic is absolutely horrible here). Dry cleaning, pharmacies, and our beloved Istanbul Turkish, which makes mouthwatering Arabic dishes.
We have looked at villas in Riviera Gardens, Messila, Beverly Hills...the first two are way too old, and the second is ok.
We are still looking for a villa, but will hold out for the right one.
Please, NO REPLIES from "Wiked", who sounds like a total moron, especially from his email signature.
I Have villas in west bay close to the school
15000 f/f.
Yeah they are on different sides of downtown.
When are you expecting to arrive in Qatar. The school is close to west bay near city center. You can easily find compound villas there .
We are currently looking in to the French School 'Lycee Bonaparte'.
Work location would be in the international airport area.
It seems they are both on different sides of downtown area! I am surprised to hear abot the traffic!
Preference would be close to the school for the kids.
Regards

Agree with volleygirl, 1st thing to check is school/job location. Traffic can be heavy and with this weather you do not want to spend too much time outside.
Many compound are nice but very very few with good maintenance.
No sure about prices, but the Al Fardan group are know for quality villas and good maintenance in their compounds. I've seen 1, 2, 5 and towers. All good places by Doha standards.
The best places will depend on jobs and schools, cause traffic is murder here!!!
