Dear Mods: Re: QL Groups

Hi Mods,

Are you in some way have an idea if the groups in QL are still active or not? Or at least be aware if the managers who suppose to be accepting requests are still active or not? Like the movie group, book group, construction and other groups? The latest posts are like 2 or 3 years ago. I tried to join in some of the groups but no one is accepting my request. I want to post in movies, put comment and get some reviews but i think this group is dead (?) same with others. It's just sad that there are some good topics/thread that we cannot comment on or at least give our output on it. :(

I also like the concept of book group wherein i can trade my books to other users and get book reviews from different people but then again, I think this group is dead (?)

I just hope that you can monitor QL groups activity too..

flor1212...I am not sure what is your grudge against the exclusivity clause. Say even if it is removed what would you contribute on Indians Group and what would I on Felix group. And take it positively, it gives you more time to interact with people in real world. QLL is enough to feel important whenever required depending on the frequency and severity of itch...:) Anyways this thread was for something else, for your issue you may like to open a new thread, what say?

the exclusivity clause. Not whether to join or not. The moderation power of each group members can be exercise to non-member as long as anyone can join in the responsible discussion. But if you look it that way as you commented, no solution can be done for many groups (actually mostly) to die the natural death.

It is a pity that an attempt to infuse life into the languishing groups and the ensuing discussion to awaken the sleeping / non active members by making it known to them how their non participation is affecting the groups inspite of best of efforts by the active and responsible managers who invest time & effort to provide a place to socialize has been taken down by some members cos of their personal grudges. For them, bottom line is if you did not behave properly or dont know how to behave while on a group, why would the group keep you on board. And even if somehow you get into, would you be welcome? What is point to keep on harping on the issue again and again.

ASk the Mods, they are the only ones who can change managers or remove a group.

if they remove the exclusivity of the group discussion, no need to be a member.

I HAVE MOVE ON, IT'S YOU WHO HAVE NOT MOVE ON. Why oh why you keep on defending it when the issue is not whether to join or not, the issue is joining the discussion.

Now tell me, WHERE IS THE FILEX NOW? Do you honestly believe that it is still the Filex that it used to be. Or do you want it back for YOURSELF?

And about Gypsy since you open her name, is there such a thing as voluntary asking to be banned? And precisely the issue here now, WHAT HAPPENS TO GROUPS, dead groups so to speak if the Manager is not around anymore? Wait 'til it banished in the air?

and the SARCASTIC ANONYMOUS Group was quiet long before she left QL....

Let it rest...drop it...

I created the FILEXPAT GROUP and turned it over to someone I respect and speak/think highly of. And just an FYI...when we had that very first meeting "HE" was the unanimous choice to lead the group.

So, if they want you out...you're OUT!!! It's just THAT! Move on...for crissake...

just like to hold on even if NOT functioning? Some people just love to hold on. Just to make sure that those perceived "enemies" will never enter the group. They would rather let it die a natural death rather than accepting others to revive it. But again, I am not interested to join, just return the NON-EXCLUSIVITY function. I still wanted to speak in the vernacular once-in-a-while. Anyway, hard to talk to "deaf" people.

Another case, the SARCASTIC ANONYMOUS group. The Manager was already banned, so what happens now?

polka, if there was a "like " button, I would push it on your post.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people always expect to be served things on a silver platter...and NEVER are ready to serve themselves,or god forbid, others.

It is the main difference between winners and losers.

I am an inactive member of many groups but a strange fact i've noticed is that a lot of people expect a "manager"[bless their souls ]to be up and ready whenever the rest of us feel like it,..like the poster here DID , who is crying about how her favorite book club and movie club needs to be resurrected[ by someone else!]so that she can post her world changing opinions….Friends if you cannot be bothered about taking the responsibility and are here as expats trying to earn money then so are the managers ,... let's not expect them to give their 100%when we ourselves cannot be bothered.... to all the Group Mangers [active and inactive]GOOD JOB ,GUYS!! at least you gave it a shot where others dread to tread.

DID...why not u take over either of the book or movie groups... they don't need a meet up or organizing scheduled activities as would have been the case with MMM group. If you later find it difficult to manage or even contribute yourself declare it and offer for someone to take over. No harm in giving it a try when both of them interest you. Think over it. My vote is already yours...:)

i agree, 2 wrongs do not make 1 right... that's why i declined Mandi's offer... I, myself is not that active on QL, so same thing might happen if i take over... lol.... and this dead group might be what... double dead? :P

Smoke.. i say Slap them boy...Slap them as hard as you can...

heres the thing.. i think its BOTH manager as well as member's responsibility to keep the group active... if everyone starts throwing responsibilities at each other..nothings gonna work... 2 wrongs do not make 1 right .. :P

Thanks Mandi, but i have to say no, I dont think I can manage the group as i am getting a bit busy., It would be unfair to members if i take over and nothing changes.. lol :)

Damsel, Smoke, Prism and Flor... you're all sailing on the same boat... And I wish to sail with you too.

Hope MOD would consider all your points. I think there is a need for "house keeping" on QL Groups... so that the dead ones can be replaced by new and active ones.

Prism i was actually ASKED to be the manager of the group...you can check with Speed to verify that fact...you might also not know this but a ql'er called snooker_madness was the the previous Manager of the group and the group was dead for over a year until i stepped in and took over the group.

Now you are right i dont expect everyone to be free to attend all my events, but then whats the excuse for not posting in the group? I'd like to see discussions happening, videos being posted, people ask for matches suggest the time when they are free to actually meet and i can arrange something for them. It works both ways and Managers of the groups need the cooperation of its members.

And while we are on the talk of not restricting one's self from saying what they feel, same goes to me. Why do you think i should restrict my self from saying what i want to say HOWEVER the heck i want to say it...just coz i'm a Manager of the group?

Smoke ...you can trust me on that, nothing goes unnoticed by me...I dont say or restrict what I want to say is another thing. BTW did someone ask you for your service which you intend to provide of your free will and expecting everyone to be free at the time you have free time.

And dont take it personally, it applies to all the so called managers of various groups.

Mods: I go with Prism's comment there... What if the manager is not active anymore? He/she should have let someone to at least take over of the group to accept the requests otherwise close the group for it's inactiveness and let someone create a new group.

What's the benefit of joining the group? same benefit why you join QL in the first place.. sharing info's.. sharing your output and input to others...

As I've mentioned just like in book group- we can trade some books and get reviews thru a healthy, fun discussion. (same with movies) and to avoid QL'ers saying "post it in there and that", "you're on a wrong thread" "why is this thread posted in whatever"... lol

By smoke• 23 Feb 2012 09:19

Prism, thanks for catching the bull by the tail, if you noticed or perhaps you dont notice before you make comments is that the thread i posted was AFTER my frustrations of arranging a lot of "group activities" and not having any "group members" show up.

Secondly, I dont work for QL, nor its members, what i do is a service to the people out of my own free will and free time, so forgive me if you think I should be sweet and KIND when i see my efforts going in vain.

Smoke...sorry to say, but talking specifically of your group, the kind of attitude you displayed and the language you used with a QLer who goes by the name 'Captain Lost' in one of your threads, is it any surprise that your group isn't active. May be you may like to think over it.

is different from joining the discussion! If they don't want me in, fine, but joining discussion and imparting some useful advise makes a difference.

Well, even advises now have EXCLUSIVITY!

and after the "exclusivity" clause, look what happened! And they don't even want a parallel group! The least to do is removed the exclusivity clause (and removed the inactive groups).

I am a very active Group manager and all my members are dead! No one responds to anything i post, no one posts anything in the group either. I have members in the group for decoration. The registration of my group was kept open so that anyone could join, but now i've closed it again.

I have no idea why people join a group but prefer to remain silent.

My suggestion is that if a group has not had any activity in over a year then it should just be deleted...or the membership approval should be kept open so that others can join and post something to revive the group.

Moderator...sorry to put in my 2 cents.

As much as the group depends on the members it is also upto the (so called) Manager to inform the members that he/she isn't able to take care or manage the group for any reason he/she may have so that either someone takes over or the group closes down and so when someone after a while wants a group on the same theme it is able to start one. What I mean is if someone starts a group and eagerly gets into the shoes of the manager, he/she should be responsible enough to hand over or close down the group graciously. In respect of some groups I apprehend if the Managers are even in Qatar as on date or are actually interested in any activities and are there just name sake to boost their egos.

A group has a manager, and the activity depends upon the members of the group. Its up to the groups members to keep the group alive.

Moderators only monitor the topics/contents within the group, as and when they posted.
