Steps to deport a maid

Minoush
By Minoush

Ok, I need the steps to deport a maid. We have given our maid 45 days to find a new sponsor (actually 35, we don't want to give her the exact cut off date).

If she doesn't find a sponsor then she knows she will be sent home.

What is the procedure?

I guess first I buy the ticket. Then what? I plan to give her 24 hours notice and basically not let her leave the house for those 24 hours. This will give her time to pack and call a few people to say goodbye.

Then I escort her to the airport and what next???

I bring her to the check-in counter, but I don't think I can go any farther than that in the airport. How do I make sure she gets on the plane? Where do I get this pink paper I keep hearing about?

Thanks

sweet, then don't bring something up if you don't want it commented on - please go back and find your own comments about working from 7-9.

Jjj-you seem to have lots of issues- just looking at your previous posts you believe you are the only one right- mrs ' know everything' .

If you can read the title- which I doubt- it says-' steps to deport the maid' NOT ' let's discuss the maid's salary'.

Hope the author of the discussion has solved the matter by now") .

sweet - just think about what you write, you stated that the hours were 7 - 9, i make that 14 hours, were you absent from school the day they taught basic arithmatic?

The old chestnut that always gets trotted out by people who make their maids work long hours are the same'oh but she is not working 100% of the time/ I pay her a fair wage if you take into account the hours she actually works so if you think about her per/hour pay it really is quite good' yada yada yada. Look if it salves your conscience go head trot out these cliches to yourself but it does not alter the fact, that 14 hours contracted work/day is not really that acceptable (regardless of whether she sometimes works 14 hours and sometimes less). You are fooling no one who has a sense of decency

Jjj you kind of got stuck on one line....' 14 hours' lol..do you know for sure that's how long she works? This is what I call ' narrow minded' thinking- most probably the desert heat got into your head- ")) maybe you would be better of somewhere in n.america or Europe.

Sweet, so your parents took advantage of their maid to make her work 14 hour days 6 days a week, just because they are in the ME - this would never fly in north america or europe for that matter

Sure if somebody is being given promises about this work - it's wrong.but when the house maids arrive if they don't wish to stay and work they have a choice to return home within first 3 months- or change the employer.

At the end if you don't need their services- why to take house maids at all??? If you can depend on yourself- why later on to complain that their salary not good, work not good.

It's only here- in middle east and few other counries - people can't imagine their life without 'help'. But nor our parents nor grandparents- none of them had them and managed perfectly fine.

By jjj75• 24 Feb 2012 08:44

Sweet, but the issue is that she is on call for 14 hours a day, so there is no safeguard that she will not work 14 hours. Would you sign a contract back in your home country which states you will work 14 hours a day 5 or 6 days a week? I rather think not.

I know- and I understand your situation- because I live here for many years.and I don't need maid myself either- I do things on my own - my parents in law have her only to assist with food preparation and cleaning because they are not young and require assistance.

You are in a different country- different rules.if you can manage without her- great!!!

Regards salary- you are right- because I have spoken to them - and I know that agencies back home promise different salary- but in doha salary for them is 200$ in UAE around 400$ and depends what family they get- some are treated like family members, some of them are forced to work day and night without any minute for themselves. Regards other things like tv , phone- again depends on family. My parents in law housemaid- she has tv with satellite in her room, laptop with Internet connection, always on the phone with family and goes out to parks and malls - and as I know their contract states they can start work 7 am and by 9 pm they are free- and she has plenty of time in between as well!!!!!

So if the housemaid doesn't want to stay- as per contract she has to pay for her ticket and reimburse any other expenses . If the employer wants to terminate the contract- they must pay for ticket and any other expenses.

Qatar has their own rules- it's too many complications to get into the country- same applies when somebody wants to leave.

mmm now I understand your situation. But take it easy once you follow the step by step procedure everything will fine and hope after that you'll have a peace of mind.

Minous, don't give her hope by telling that you want to give her 45 days to find another sponsor and yet you are doing in the opposite way.

If you don't want to give her a chance to improved her life tell her the truth. In the end you the sponsor she can't transfer to other field of work without your approval right?

If you are good to her, I think she won't do anything against you.

By Sweet4ever• 23 Feb 2012 14:10

Well nobody is being treated like slaves here.I don't agree with this habit of keeping their passport- but there is a reason why it is advised. And FYI it's not only housemaids- many of companies here in Qatar - the sponsor has their passport- and everybody has their freedom. Because from your words- you want to terminate her services and you want to proceed with this cancelation even before the given date and right now you fear that she might run away- all you can hope her co- operation. It takes time to find good housemaid- so good luck for you.

Thank you 2020 Olympics, yes we had the passport for processing, but promptly gave it back once the visa was issued. The last thing we want to do is send her home. She is a sweet girl- misguided and naive, but sweet. We want to give her an opportunity to find something else without having to send her home. But, we need to be prepared in case we must.

Thanks for all the replies, they have been very helpful.

Minoush--as her employer you may require her to give you her passport for processing purposes.

BTW I believe you have been more than generous with this maid of yours. It is best to return her and give the opportunity to one who is grateful to have such a generous sponsor. Good luck to you.

And in my experience you will need original documents in all visa cases.

quite and my understanding is that if she did work here and was still under your sponsorship, even though you knew nothing about it, it would still be your responsibility

EVERYBODY I know here has their passport with them. If my husband's employer told him that they must hold our passports, I doubt we would be in Doha right now. Passports are like gold- you never let them out of your hands.

Sorry that I don't treat my maid like a slave- according to Qatari law, it is illegal to keep a person's passport. It's that simple.

If there are consequences we have to deal with, so be it.

By Sweet4ever• 22 Feb 2012 18:27

Well from my point of view you are in a little trouble- you must present her original passport upon cancelation.that's the reason the employee must have the passport- and believe me I'm talking from my experience with housemaids who tried to run away- but couldn't go far without passport.

has the same mentality as Minoush, can you imagine the chaos at the departure lounge of the airport?

It was already mentioned that she should cancel the visa, so why assure that the maid will really leave the country?

Can you please post the link of her other threads about this maid!

It is two-fold, Flor. We care about those people who live in our households and work for us, and we care about the laws of Qatar that require certain steps be taken to transfer them to another job when they wish to do so. We certainly would not want to be responsible for someone to be less than legal.

You can't cancel her visa without her original passport.. The immigration will have to have the visa page stamped as cancelled.

By Minoush• 22 Feb 2012 12:52

Thanks Mandi,

She isn't a bad person, but she has decided that she doesn't want to be a maid anymore- she wants to work in a store at Villiagio. So we told her she has 45 days to find this job or we have to send her home. We don't want to keep her on if she doesn't want to work. We need a new maid, so she either has to switch her visa to a business visa (which I heard is impossible) or go back home.

I only have a copy of her passport, not the actual passport. Will this be a problem to cancel her visa? (please don't start on me about how I should have kept het passport)It's against the law to keep passports and regardless of if she is a sheik or a maid- I don't hold anybody else's passport.

You can cancel visa few days before departure- as people mentioned max 7 days- after that if within week from cancelation she doesn't leave- you will have to pay penalty for every day she overstays. As far as I know- u need to bring only her passport, but keep tickets and your passport with you as well- they might request.I suggest don't leave this cancelation for last minute- as sometimes they are slow..and keep an eye on her- you don't want any headache if she tries to run away.good luck

BE, she hasn't committed an offense, it's just that Qatar laws require that you send your employee home at the end of service. Minoush has offered an NOC but the maid hasn't found another job. None of us can take the chance of having a maid under our sponsorship just disappear. And Minoush is too kind to just cancel her visa without sending her home.

What documents do I need to cancel the visa?

I think we are going to tell her she has until the 31st, but actually send her around the 25th. (To make sure she doesn't run)

I hate to do that, but we can't take the chance...

cancel the visa a a week before the maid leaves. Take the maid o the airport and help the maid check in. Guide her to the passport control and thats all. then the maid is on her own.

The same procedure that you follow when you travel out of qatar by flight holds true for the maid as well.

If the maid is under your sponsorship and you have already given notice, then make sure the maid is under your watch till she departs. There is also a possibility that she could run away....

Thank you nite_rider.

I appreciate the replies, they are very helpful, I just keep pleading on multiple threads that I need EXACT directions, but most answers are vague, no specifics. Again very helpful, but I need details.

This was a local transfer, our HR does not help with these situations so we are on our own. We need to do this correctly. I hate wasting time driving around looking for places, I hate not having the right paperwork and having to come back, I am trying to get the exact details so I can do this smoothly and easily.

nite_rider, do I go to immigration right before I take her to the airport or can I go a day or two before?

You go to the imigration department to cancel her visa, from the date of cancellation she has seven days to exit the country.. Just drop her to the airport thats more than enough.. Once visa is cancelled go and apply for a new one.. Just remember to keep her passport copy, ticket copy and the cancellation paper with you.. If you feel she did not get on the plane you can go to the CID department and file an absconding report against her with those copies..

If u really want to know that she is on the plane then take this service called Al Maha at the airport..

They will escort the maid on your behalf through immigration security and ensure that she gets on the plane.....u can also give them your # and they will call to confirm that she is on the plane and out of here.....

It cost a nominal amount atleast u would know for shure that she has exited.......

So there is an immigration INSIDE the airport- ok good.

you dont need to go till the plane once you drop her just wait for few mins so that she does not return and subscribe for metrash so you will receive a text at the time for her exit, for visa cancellation i think you need to go to immigration and get it done.

Thanks, but this is not really helping. What airport procedures? Do I have to escort her to the plane, just see her to passport control?

How do I cancel her visa? Where and when EXACTLY do I go for this?

I'm sorry if I sound stupid, but things in Doha are clear, there is no phone number to call for questions.

I have gotten tons of information but never told how exactly to do this.

Please literally walk me through this step by step for each procedure.
