Leaving Qatar - how soon can we return? help!

Hi,

After having left my job in Doha, my wife and I are due to leave Qatar at the end of this month.

I have a residents permit, and work visa, my wife at the moment only has a temporary visa valid til April.

When I finally leave my job - my employers will arrange cancelling my RP and our visas, and I believe this gives us 7 days to leave the country.

What I want to know is - how soon can we come back into the country? Before we return to the UK, we hoped to go to visit family in Saudi for a few days. So i'm hoping that we can leave Qatar (within the 7days) with our visas cancelled - and then return to Qatar for a few days (and get a 30day tourist visa - we both have UK passports) before flying back to the UK. Is this possible?

Someone told us that there may be a minimum amount of time that we have to leave the country for before we can return... does anyone know if this is correct?
We'd really appreciate any information
