Dear All
I recently received a job offer for QR 6,000/- (basic+HRA), no other allowances from a leading retail and hospitality group in gulf and for the post of Accountant for one of their health clubs.

I am an ACCA, UK Affiliate and Bachelor in commerce graduate with 3 years work experience in UAE. I was laid off together with many other employees when the company I worked in UAE downsized. Reached Qatar with high expectations. Now I feel it was a bad decision to come to this land as good jobs are not available to me as am an Indian and doesnt have strong recommendations ( I think this 2 are the most important aspects in getting a decent job).

Now what should I do? join this company and content my self with this salary or wait for a better offer. I dont have much time in Qatar as my visa expires after 1 month. please advise

QR 6,000.00 (complete package)compensation is more than fair enough for an accountant in Qatar. For SME's, this rate is already for Accounts Supervisor and higher position.

Salary range of accountants is from 2,500 to 3,500 (some even includes Housing in it). Not just Small-Medium Enterprise offers it but you will be even surprised that some big companies are also doing so.

For current job market in Qatar, manpower supply is definitely more than it's hiring demand, reason why companies are taking advantage offering lesser rates, not unless the economy and the market picks up- it may change, but this may still be on the mid 2012.

If i am you, as long as the company is stable and the company has a strong and organized management, and they are following the labor law for the paid leaves, gratuity and annual air tickets, i will grab it. You are even luckier than others.

We are comparatively running on the same track.I was in uae more than 4 years here i came with great hopes but me too thinking that the decision to exit from uae is one of the bad in my life.As per my experiences in the field of Accounts i could not get any better opportunity at the moment,But still i have hope for a bright one.

@mike: thnx

@avaiqatar: almost the same. There were some chance of reaching higher level in UAE company but they didnt get an important contract and suffered lot of losses, so many were axed.

The company that offered job here is very famous, almost everyone knows abt it but heard that they generally dont give much increment to employeed

its very sad to see that there is no value given to professionals like us. The ban of 2 years is one of the worst law in the world. it seems most of the laws here are to protect the interests of the employers, not employees.

Even I too went thru painful things during interviews, had to attend 3 interviews in the same office for this offer. But thats ok but the salary package they offer shd atleast justify those. I could have accepted the offer if it was from an audit firm, so can I learn a lot from them.

Thanks a lot for ur suggestion. I too think its better to wait.

wish u too all the best

Im going through the same situation. Im also ACA part qualified + UK post graduate holder with other professional qualification and experience. I went interviews for last 4 months. But all were offer me around Qr 4000.Im a female and I went through few painful things during the interviews. Actually I cant bear these things. But more than that I need money. So Im try to stay patiently.

Once we join the company its difficult to change the company. and the other issue is without personal contacts its little bit difficult to find job with good offer. But you are a Indian. Im sure there a lot of Indians help people in same country. So Im telling you wait a little. Im sure in 2012 you can find a better opportunity coz someone told me some projects are going to open around January. Stay strong. good Luck
