Robberies at Barwa Village

By dd2022dd

Two apartments in the Barwa village (near the airport) were robbed during bright day light while the residents were away. Everything was miserably torn apart and scattered by the culprits, taking away valuables and cash; leaving the residents panic stricken and ruined.
The police has been investigating the incident and trying to do their best to find the persons responsible (took finger prints, arrested all security guards for a few days etc), whilst the management of the barwa village is busy not taking responsibility or any corrective actions. I was taken aback by the fact that the security guard clearly stated that, “we’re a third party security company, our duty is not to avoid any theft attempts etc but merely to ensure no property damage is being done, in case fire breaks out or if there is a scuffle between people, thats it” …amazing isn’t it?

The management promised to install security cameras and dedicate a security guard on each floor but its been a week and no progress noticed thus far.

My objective of writing this is not to deprecate the reputation of anyone but to make sure we take care of the following points:
.
.
.
a) These incidents are on the rise in Qatar so everyone should ensure their valuables are kept safely
.
.
b) Doors and windows are locked before leaving the house
.
.
c) Never leave your vehicle running and unattended even if you get off to grab something from the store nearby
.
.
d) Remember family safety is your responsibility hence make sure ur taking necessary steps
.
.
e) Test the strength of your current door lock, if you feel its vulnerable get it replaced
.
.
f) Get to know people who live next door (get their contact numbers etc) so that they can be of help in the hour of need
.
.
g) Observe things around you, in case you see someone suspicious, don’t hesitate to ask why hes standing there. Be bold and blunt!
.
.
Hope these things don’t happen in the future and the clowns get caught…..Stay Alert, stay safe!

Among the types of robbery are armed robbery involving use of a weapon and aggravated robbery involving use of a deadly weapon or something that appears to be a deadly weapon. Highway robbery or "mugging" takes place outside and in a public place such as a sidewalk, street, or parking lot.-Arthur van der Vant

Best to keep workers and low-paid employees under supervision and observation.

I agree with 2012. Unless people are paid a decent wage, a society will descend into crime.

This really should come as no surprise.

As for the idea that crime is increasing - how can anyone determine whether it is going up, down or staying the same, since there is very little coverage of such incidents in the local papers.

For all we know, this sort of thing might be happening everyday in Doha and the newspapers are just being told to stay quiet so that locals stay calm.

This is what happens when government has low salary requirement for families and allows low salaried workers and so-called professionals to live outside industrial zone.

I am happy the salary requirement is raised and workers are being prohibited from living in family areas. It is a wise move and a start.

No wonder that such things happen. Just yesterday I visited a friend of mine in Barwa village in Sailiya.. Nobody even asked for ID to be left at security or even looked at the car.... I guess, anybody can enter there.

Replace front door lock whenever you move to a new Flat or villa. Keys should't be kept under the front door mates.

Thanks for all the reminders..yes as safe as Qatar is as compared to many parts of the world the fact remains :low crime doesn't mean no crime.

Shocked to hear of the Barwa stories..The managements and the security folks attitude sounds as scary as the robberies itself. makes one wonder!
