Question about the English (No offense intended) But, is it true that, the English Wear suits and ties, drink tea and eat scones, fly English flags everywhere like you just landed on the moon, go off in little armies trying to colonise the US and Ireland? o_O!

By Captain_Lost• 14 Dec 2011 11:31

it means: "Im gona do whatever i want, get out of the way"

respect all sensitive/emotionally impaired people.

Accept the fact of life that No one is perfect but continue to make 'sincere efforts to improve'.

Does one will forgive and forget my shortcomings and mistakes? I doubt.

Theoritically, we do accept many things, but in reality, we take people for granted and do offend very often.

or in English No Offence means I've heard about of much as I can tolerate of your stupid opinions, a constant on QL, it also says IF YOU PERSIST IN SUCH STUPIDY I will go further! Maybe attack you! If you understand what I'm saying you will calm down and reflect on how stupid your ideas on this are on the topic.

'No Offence' is a highly offensive word..one can do away with it in constructive criticisms.

If you really wanna insult someone and take pleasure out of it, use it often in almost everything you say about the person..:)

By Princess Arora• 9 Dec 2011 14:07
Princess Arora

Exactly!

Most people would rather be in denial of their shortcomings than have someone come confirm them. I for one don't mind being corrected but it must be politely. Sugar coating is a must! Cos when someone comes up all rude and insulting what they say, no matter how true, will likely be rejected. Good manners and kindness can by far achieve better results. Correct a person's mistake but please don't attack their ego in other words!

But don't you realize that sometimes it may hurt the blind man's feeling. Maybe, you should use the word "visually impaired".

Why did you not give this explanation before?

By Princess Arora• 9 Dec 2011 12:43

On a positive note, "no offence" mean that you have so and so negative attributes in you, but I would like to improve those 'negative attributes' into 'positive qualities' in which other people are unwilling to do the same.

Say for example, when you hang out with a smelly friend, you may not directly tell her that she needs to take a shower because it may hurt her feelings. Instead, you may add "no offence" so as to signal her that you are about to tell something which would help her but at the same time offend her.

By agentpaper• 9 Dec 2011 12:29
agentpaper

it may also refer to something that might step or hurt your belief, nationality, even your own status. Like

-no offense to the Muslim people...

-no offense with the Filipino people here

-no offense to those who are still single but we only allowed married or couple...

By the-birdie• 9 Dec 2011 11:40
