2 US soldiers accused of raping teenagers in South Korea
SEOUL: Two US soldiers have been accused of raping teenage girls in South Korea in separate incidents, prompting US military officials to apologize Saturday as they tried to ease growing public anger.
Army Brig. Gen. David Conboy, who supervises the US garrison in Seoul, issued a statement apologizing for "pain" caused by allegations that a US soldier raped a girl in her rented room in Seoul on September 17.
Another US private has been arrested on suspicion of raping a teenage girl on September 24 in a city north of Seoul.
The alleged assaults have prompted small protests near the US embassy in Seoul, while the internet has been abuzz with Koreans expressing their anger. On Saturday, a minor labor party called for restricting the movement of American soldiers outside their bases.
The US has 28,500 troops stationed in South Korea, a legacy of the 1950-53 Korean War.
US officials are wary of an anti-American sentiment that could be rekindled in countries where their troops are stationed.
In 1995, the rape of a 12-year-old Japanese girl by US service members in Okinawa sparked one of the biggest anti-US protests in Japan. About 50,000 US troops are stationed in Japan in a post-World War II security pact.

are HOLY men! Remove the drugs and too much alcohol, these incidents won't happen. These soldiers should be punished, and punished hard!
.. are not korea and japan free and independant countries then what are this american guys doing there or is it that Korea and Japan are not good enough themselves to take care of their countries.
Because people actually trust that they can protect and help them and hence allow them in. Its very sad then when the trust is betrayed and they come in with any other agendas.
why are they there at all Fathima??
To think the very people entrusted to securing a society can actually be perpetrators of such wickedness is sickening.Such wrongdoers should be dealt with very severely. These soldiers bring direpute, disdain and misgiving to all of their kind. Its sad because even the well intentioned of soldiers will be treated like potential criminals now.
