Drinks firm trademarks F-word
In its ruling, the court explained that, although the name was unquestionably in poor taste, it did not violate public morals.
I find this strange. I personally feel that it does impact public morals – similar to the acceptance of the “FCUK” trade mark.
What say you ? Am I being a prude ?
A drinks company has won a court battle to register the F-word as a trademark.
Liquor manufacturer EFAG will now enjoy legal protection of the brand name of its 'Ficken' schnapps.
Drinkers might feel a little embarrassed about asking for the drink - it is named after the German word for "f***."
EFAG took the case to the Federal Patent Court after officials refused to register the name as a trademark, arguing that it was socially offensive.
Following its legal victory, EFAG now owns the 'Ficken' trademark for clothing, mineral water and fruit drinks, as well as alcoholic drinks
I don't know if in today's day and age if we can say that such a brand name will actually make things "worse" than they are or simply blend in so to speak. And bare in mind that many would argue that selling liquor alone, regardless of the brand name, could cause more damage to public morals!
Whilst I agree with your sentiments and points, I do believe that allowing such words to be used for marketing purposes does in the long term influence public morals..
Uncensorred in many places. And yes while I do find it in very poor taste, I'd say anyone who finds it offensive simply needn't purchase their products(personally I know I won't if given a choice) And I doubt we'll see their stuff in "orthodox" environments anyway. They'd propably sell them in places where there will be a demand for them so there should not be an issue.
E"FAG"- why im not surprised to name their products "ficken" :P LoL J/K
Thanks, Sir brit.
That is "immoral"
What's 'public morals'? Shooting innocent people to stay in power?
