1 week to decide. Job with Qatar or Oman?

Firstly, hello everybody.

I'm new here. I appologize for writing on this section but saw that it is the busiest, and I really do need the advice ASAP.

I got offered a job with Qatar Airways as a Pilot.
The offer is good, however I hear a lot about how the airline is strict, and how Doha is very dull.

I also have an offer with Oman Air, and that's the confusing part for me.

The offer, the aircraft, and the destinations with Qatar Airways are all better.
However I would believe the job security with Oman Air is better.

Not sure which country is a nicer one to live in.

Any advice on the the countries, the airline, anything is much appreciated.

Thank you in advace :)

My recommendation is to take a flight and dedicate 2 days for each country and make a decision based on what you like, if you are married then it is a good idea to bring your wife along with you to help you with the decision making

Qatar.  It will provide a good life for you and family.  Just remember to be grateful for this opportunity and not become spoiled and snobby like many expats.

Hi all thank you for the responses.Firstly, I am not so much into nature as I am into chilling at the mall, going to coffee shops, being able to just be left alone. As much as I would like to pick Oman Air, just for it's country, I may just pick Qatar Airways because of the airline itself. The airline is a much better one with better destinations, and better chances of advancement in the future.Although still I have heard some really funny stories on how people get fired.Does anyone second that, or is it not that bad at all?Again thankall.

First of all congrats on your new offers!

I think it depends on your lifestyle... Oman is a much more diverse and beautiful country with lots to see and do... However, only if you are into NATURE. Muscat is not anymore exciting than Doha.. In fact, I think Doha may be more "cosmopolitan," of course I mean that in the loosest meaning possible -- Doha has more shopping malls, hotels, facilities, etc.

In terms of culture, Oman is more liberal -- the locals are more tolerant of things like alcohol (in fact locals are allowed to purchase alcohol, unlike here in Qatar). They are more down to earth. You will find an Omani laborer, whereas in Qatar, there's no such thing.

Qatar, on the other hand, has more to offer if you are into luxurious things like spas, fine dining, designer brand shopping, etc. You may also get a better package in Qatar -- keep in mind though, that living expenses are much higher here.

If it was me, I would pick Oman. I have traveled all over the world and Oman remains one of the most beautiful I've ever visited. It is truely a hidden gem, with gorgeous mountains, wadis, deserts, beaches and seas... The road infrastructure there is a million times more developed than Qatar, so you don't even need a 4X4 to explore the country! The grand canyon forever, has smooth paving all the way to the peak! Imagine that! And the ocean is so nice there -- you can watch the turtles and snorkel... in Qatar, the best you'll see is maybe a few crabs and a few lame fish.

Good luck!

Money - then Qatar airwaysGood living - Oman air..But the problem - recently Omanisation drive is still in peak..But I am a doctor, u r a pilot... so there is no question of omanisation for our jobs. Qatar airways are strict.. but discipline is important... I think U shd prefer Qatar airways...

From a living point of view Oman might be better but from a growth and potential point of view Qatar is much better and Qatar Airways flys to many more destination than Oman Air with international crew.I would go for Qatar purely from the point it more potential and like you said it is better offer. With the money you can go any where you like the most of us.  :)

Qatar any dayJ

Oman is a beautiful country, but not anymore good for expatriates work-

·         Oman is socially  unstable at this point of time.

·         Oman air is no match for Qatar airways .

·         Omanaisation of jobs  are full force. You will be flying with almost 100% Omani crew.

Oman is the nicer (read more interesting) place to live when you're not working - more to see and do.
