Would you fall for a sob story?

An Austrian police official said Thursday that a woman last month refused demands by a knife-wielding man to give him 400 euros ($570) from an ATM — but she then handed over 90 euros ($130) out of pity after he put away his weapon, took off his mask and told her that he was homeless and broke.

The woman's husband, however, was not so understanding. The unidentified culprit was arrested Tuesday after he alerted authorities in Neunkirchen, a town south of Vienna and the scene of the crime.

Sadly, there are many who take advantage. I look at it this way...if I have enough to share, why not?

These guys are all fake. A guy approached me in the parking lot few weeks back , he was trying to unbutton his shirt n show me tht he needs surgery. i felt pity on the poor fellow and gave him 50 riyals. He demanded i give him 50 more, at which point i told him to go away.

My other friends were in another car and were parking few meters away from me hadnt seen what happened. He approached their car n told them that he didnt have food to eat. My friend being the sweetest soul i know took the guy to Almana towers n got him sandwich n coffee.

Finally she met me at the restaurant n she had a tale to tell n so did i.

Yesterday while parking my car one guy came and told that he is from Bangladesh he is very sick and was admitted in hamad hospital and now he don’t have money to go back to Bangladesh... he showed me a wound in his had which looked really bad..then I remember some thread before on QL regarding such ppl with fake wounds and urine bags attached to their stomach..... so I thought his wound is not real..though I wanted to help him badly… I was about to say no and my son wanted me to give him something ...so I gave him some money...dunno if his wound is real or not...but sometimes we fall for the sob stories...

As Pilgram said.. if they had another option..would they resort to begging??

But if am thretended... I dont think I would give...out of sympathy may be...

Wow! That woman is brave! If it happens to me, i will definitely hand over the money (with shaking hands )...

Dont want to risk my life over that amount of money.

I probably would have handed over the money when he started pointing a knife at me...however, if by some streatch of the imagination I hadn't peed myself and given him the 400 Euros I probably would have "fell" for the sob story.   Some people are driven to desperate measures, and I often think that if they are willing to resort to those measures that they need the money more than I do.
