Set Up for Cell Service, Banking, net and etc

I will be moving soon to Qatar but I would like to ask some advice for getting things set up.

1. What shall I expect as far as cost of monthly cell phone service for something like a BB or Iphone? Local calls only but internet service for checking email and etc.

2. Internet Speed - do they offer different internet speeds for the apartments such as 1 mb to 16 mb? If so what are the cost ranges and is it dependable?

3. Banking - How do you guys send money back home? For me I will need to send money to the US every month. I currently live abroad and it cost me something like $100 USD to transfer $5000 USD.

4. Car - Looks like I will purchase a used SUV. I have seen the prices of the used market.... how is the new car prices compared, will my best bet on saving money be with like  a used Toyota Fourtuner SUV for $20k or shall I purchase new? I plan to stay at least 5 years, if not more.

5. Apartment or home (FULLY FURNISHED) - what can I expect to get with 10,000 QAR monthly? Can someone live in a nice place for less, like 8,000 and be close to shopping or taxi for the wife that will not drive?

Ok thanks in Advance for any help you can assist me with !!

1. Right now we have two telecom operators: Vodafone and Qtel. Check the plans in their sites from prepaid to monthly charges  or post paid services to see the one that would fit your needs.2. Internet Speed - QTEL is the sole provider of internet via landline and details are on the site (www.qtel.com.qa). ALthough depending on the location of the housing it will be slower.3. Banking - most of the banks allow for monthly transfer via online services without much hassle. The last time I sent some money to the US it cost me around 5 US$ for 4000$. However do not take this for granted since each bank has it own rules.4. Car - cars depreciate here on a 20% annually. So it seems like your bet for a used car is the right path. A brand new Fortuner could be around >30 KUS$5. Apartment or home (FULLY FURNISHED) - with 10 K you could get a nice stand alone Villa or a villa in a "well located" compound wiht ease of acces to transportation and shopping. Say you go with 8000 you might be able to find some choices of apt in the city and also in the suburbs (out of the city) you could be even be able to find something below 8 K but it will be your choice.Hope it helps...Regards!!
