consultant is other form of Recruitment (HR in general) hehehehe... You are not really an HR Specialist, bcoz your judging it straight only for 1 reason.

Niways ,, thanks for the nice post you shot for HR..

:-) I have been recruited because of HR? How did you presume this? HR had no say in my appointment. Not in Qatar at least. Absolutely Zero but I agree on the other statements which proves my point - they do only the paper work and are a cost center. Some even bad in that - case for example, CV's received are never organised.

Infact for my previous Co. in Qatar, I didn't even bother with the HR function. We did our own planning, recruitment and appointment of staff and gave the formalities and paperwork to HR – the full recruitment process was developed by a consultant. I do wish there was a strong function to actually involve themselves in various HR matters such as manpower planning, induction, attrition (Very important), performance planning/activities/appraisal/feedback/reward, training & development, compensation and benefits, policies etc – what I’ve noticed here is that if any Company does require some actual “HR” work to be done, they hire a consultant to do the job.

There are exceptions and I do know Co's in Qatar with strong HR functions (International Co’s and some who adopt global practices) and HR who actually have some authority but most do not. In my current co. we are in process of developing a strong HR function and I’m hopeful.

Alex125 perhaps your Co. might be the exception...Btw I’m not a HR specialist :-)

Thank you very much for nice post regarding your point of view for HR... as you may aware you had been recruited coz of HR and HR assist you on processing of docs travelling to qatar or even transferring your visa to RP.  As recruitment staff, i strongly dont agree on what you wrote.

Most of HR specially recruitment are qualified to be HR or recruitment staff..

she's receiving QR8,500 without any benefit.. meaning, accomodation and transportation allowances are perhaps included in her package.

correct me if i'm wrong..

basic salary + accomodation + transpo = QR8,500

You dont say if you are getting free accomodation or not. Is this sort of salary you expect going to pay rent too or not?I would also like to know if this is enough for a decent living without fancy wishes ... Please add to this..

Be happier of what you are getting. That's a reasonable salar. Infact, those who get well paid risk of loosing jobs if crisis take on.

Salary ranges vary by the company not by position. So a co-ordinator would range from 4,000 to 30,000. Most HR functions out here work involves only filing personnel files and process payroll. Most do not have any say in recruitment etc. Moreover the co-ordinator would do most of the work. Do remember HR is the first function that is subject to qatarisation-dont need a qualification to be in HR.

Dont look to the gulf if you want good experience in HR- there are exceptions but most HR functions are very poor. If you do not get good money, forget it.

sad to say.. salaries here in Qatar depends on your nationality...

if you are from western and/or europe countries, the salary is  much much higher than those other asian nations..take note also how huge is your employer/company if they could give you much more or better..

instead, asses yourself from cost of living, leisure and needs if the QR8,500 is enough.. if not, then you decide..

Job Titles alone are no basis upon which to benchmark salary v salary. I dont know who you work for but i would suggest that you get in professional contact with a recognised HR forum in Qatar - there are a couple available on line and get some decent benchmark data.

Hope that helps.
