moving things, and getting a house.
I am moving to Qatar by 1st week of June. Is it possible to have my personal effects moved into Qatar and have them cleared by customs (of course by agents) with my entry visa and a sponsorship letter from my company who will apply for my work permit/resident permit, before I get my resident visa?. I am looking for this info as I have to wind up my establishment in Singapore once my personal effects are shipped from here.
Can any body advise me on this from your own experience on the same, if any?
Secondly, I will be in a hotel to start with. Will I be able to find a house within a week or 10 days? Will it be possible to take a house for a short term and extend the same for a long term, to avoid, multiple shifting?
First of all, let me thank both of you for responding to my question. I plan to take a furnished house.
My question is if my husband is coming on a short term visa, can he clear the cargo from customs? I will send the things, only after he takes a house there.
Some agents here, for aircargo said that we need RP for clearance. was wondering if the cargo is received before getting RP, can one receive it .. with company's letter or something?
I am planning to send the things in 2 weeks of his departure, and I wish to wind up this set up.
Hi Nicol,
Im not sure if you can bring in your personal belongings before u get your work permit. But interms of accomodation i can provide you one. I have a one bed room appartment which i had taken for myself but now im not usoing it. if you want I can rent them to you for a long term basis (1yr).

Question - Where do you plan to keep your personal effects until you land in Doha ? You will have to pay demurrage and that won't be cost effective (IMHO). You may instead book an air cargo which can land the same day as you. You can personally go to the custom clearance and get it all cleared (fairly easy).
Cannot advice on moving effects as have no personal experience. May be someone can advice you on that.
As for getting a house in a week or 10 days, I am not sure if you looking or a fully/semi/ unfurnished one. But in either case that would be possible but may be you may not get a place and price of your choice. As for fully furnished ones there are a couple of places which offer short term, say one month to start with extendable for long term.
