Toyota is setting up an internet social networking service so drivers can interact with their vehicles in a way similar to posting on Facebook or Twitter.

Toyota Friend is a private social network for Toyota owners.

In a demonstration at a Tokyo showroom, an owner of a plug-in Prius hybrid found out through a mobile phone message from his Prius called "Pre-boy" that he should remember to recharge his car overnight.

When the owner plugged in his car to recharge it, the car replied, "The charge will be completed by 2:15 a.m. Is that OK? See you tomorrow."

The exchanges can be kept private or be shared with other "Toyota Friend" users, as well as made public on Facebook, Twitter and other services, the company said.

If your car is up for an inspection, for example, the owner will be notified through "Toyota Friend," which will in turn automatically link to a dealer to set up an appointment.

Toyota hopes that amid the popularity of social networking, cars and their makers can become part of that social interaction: "I hope cars can become friends with their users, and customers will see Toyota as a friend," said the president of Toyota motors.

Damn it ... I just Sold my Corolla couple of weeks ago ..

Is there any similar thing for Pajero .. She is my new friend and i love her so much.

She got a wide space inside, curvy body, and big bum as well. and i really feel orgasm when i'm riding her.

she is my new B**ch ... although if i got more money or she started to nag a lot and never shut her mouth.

I'll sell her and i will get a new "Friend"

Years ago , Leyland built a car called the Allegro, which used to remind the driver about handbrake, seatbelts, lights etc.

After the initial novelty had worn off, people got irritated by the vocal reminders. :o)

Toyota should see how some folks drive their cars around here! With friends like these....ah well!

I am not arguing the intention, brit. I only think that many car owners will be rather annoyed being reminded by the car what to do and when. I love the old cars. The only sound they made came from the engine.

If that is so, brit, then their server will soon crash. How many millions of Toyota car owners are there?

Toyota is building what it call a private social network for Toyota owners allowing them to connect with their cars, dealership and ofcourse with Toyota itself.

Small beginnings, but great potential..

I don't think the cars will make a lot of friends, brit. I remember one guy who had a BMW. The car told him he couldn't start the engine anymore, because the service interval had passed. He sold his "friend".
