I could be moving to Doha soon and want to know what the shopping experience is like over there. I have a 2 year old son so will I easily be able to get his clothing/toys etc..Also will I be able to get English food readily? What are the prices like? I'm tempted to bring boxes of cereal and my sons full toy box with me! So would appreciate some information.

Ok....... when I first walked into Villagio (huge shopping centre), I thought I was in Manchester Trafford Centre!, Same design same shops!.... Mothercare, M&S, BHS, Next, Early Learning Centre etc etc etc..... even an Adams in Landmark! Lots of Toy shops including ToysRus.

As for food the major store is Carrefour which is french, so lots of European food, most things are available... sometimes you have to do to more than one Supermarket, to be honest there are only a few things I haven't managed to find, an abundance of fresh veg, herbs, meat, fish... cereal... all major brands... really no need to bring food unless it is something unique.

People are always asking from the UK 'do yo need anything'..... and apart from Wine Gums and Midget Gems!! (an addiction of mine)... no other requests!

Everything you asked about is available here. Prices vary from place to place and brand to brand but in general you can find most essential stuff for reasonable prices pretty much everywhere(read hypermarkets, supermarkets, etc).

About Makkah yes road trips are possible and common from Qatar to Saudi. You can either choose to make the journey yourself or go by bus.Again prices vary but if you make the journey yourself it can be like 2000R pp depending on the hotel you stay in and number of days, etc.

BAby stuff is easily available here. I dont know about UK ready made stuff but in Carrefour I have seen products imported from UK. If you provide the list of what things are you looking for I might be able to help you.
