I was interested in opening a kindergarten. I saw a place, after it was verbally approved by Baladiya i took it on rent ( Last Oct). As i did not know the procedures, i did up the place, i spent a lot of money on the furnishings, interiors, security system and new split a/c's.(I had visited a few kindergartens and as compared, my place was bigger and better equipped.
Now the authority has come up with new regulations for setting up kindergartens and i am being told that they will not approve this place b'coz the size is not sufficient. I have put in a lot of hard work and a huge amount of investment in setting up this place and i don't know whom to turn to. If somebody can help me or advise me regarding this matter i will be very grateful.

Its A Bad Idea To Invest In A Country which DOsent Claim U R Name In any Instance...

best way out is to sell the furniture and other items you have already furnished in the house.

First check with other KGs, Nurseries or junior schools if they are willing to buy else post it on QL and other online classified websites and thru Arabic/ English news papers.

It is better solution or you will be end up paying the rent for the premises for nothing.

All the best.

Turn it into a Nursery. There are not so many regulations for nurseries as for kindergardens, funny, isn't it?

(KG is already considered school) Good luck!

TB i wanted to post the same thing but was not sure, TCOM just reconfirmed my thoughts though. You might need a license though but not a partner/sponsor.

One does not need a Qatari Sponsor for kindergarten or Babysitting.

Do you have Qatari sponsor? You should apply through him.

How can you make such an investment without doing your research about what you need. You can only blame yourself for this mess!

Just as a practical point, if you borrowed the start up cash from the bank, make sure that they are aware of the situation, its always good to keep them fully informed, they may even be able to assist if it is their money.

By timebandit• 11 Apr 2011 08:55

But this time get yourself a Qatari business partner first.

Don't feel crazy low or bad about it. We all make mistakes at some point...and quite big ones too. I think this is something you can survive and tide over. True, much money has been sunk into this project of yours. But going forward, take cautious steps. As Smoke very rightly suggested, think up alternatives that could make use of the set-up you have prepared.

By smoke• 11 Apr 2011 08:47

perhaps then you forget about the kindergarten thing and open up a babysitting thingy?

"verbal approval" does not hold water here or elsewhere. These are not the good old days anymore. Find out more about other kindergartens, compile a report and enjoy the slug-fest with concerned authorities. Your sponsors, if they are solid, should be able to guide and help you out.

From what I can think of, and most importantly, if the authorities can wrap their heads around it, it is the head-count that could also be taken into consideration by them and not just the size of the building. Not every kindergarten should be expected to accommodate 150 children. There are some that have just 15 children attending. Logically, one wouldn't need a 15 room mansion for it. But as many QLrs would say, logic does not see much light of day.

See if you can defend your plan based on your ability to scale down correspondingly to meet requirements. For future reference, get everything verified, signed and stamped on paper before you set out to do anything.

You do not have a Qatari business partner? Now seriously if you just went ahead and did all this preparation without checking local procedures out properly then I have no option other that to call you stupid.

"they will not approve this place b'coz the size is not sufficient"

That is rubbish. There are loads of reasons why this would have failed to get approval, but that would have been the last one on the list.

As i have mentioned earlier i did not know the procedures, as soon as the place was approved by Baladiya, i rented it and started furnishing it.

Thanks, for all the support, i feel so low and depressed at the moment.

Did you register your company correctly and get a licence to operate such a business before looking for premises? Can't your Qatari business partner (which you must have) help you out?
