Response to a racist

By shaz_341

The question is simple, how should one react to somebody who is a racist ? Usually I just leave them or give them a smile for their ignorance. But, that might make them more racist. So any advices, is reacting against them an option ? or will that put me in his position. Would like to hear your opinions and thoughts about this issue.

Please, this thread is not to bash anyone. If you want to please stay away.

Thank you all for your advice. I think I'll continue doing what I did before, ignore or :)

I hope they change. They will come to know how it feels, only once they are on the other side.

Depends on the context. Are you talking about your place of work or at the mall, when the security guards stop non-white males who are not wearing thobes at the entrance?

When one receives or in conversation and a racist comment is made - politely ask them to repeat it, then say (again politely and pleasantly) "that's what I thought you said" - and move the conversation along on another topic.

Sometimes I think people don't actually hear what they are saying themselves. Give them an opportunity to listen to themselves without judgement - maybe they will actually hear what they themselves are saying.

After all, you can't fix stupid - and that's what racism is, stupidity

There are 19 races in this year's Formula 1 calendar after the cancellation of Bahrain. I'm gonna watch them all. I am a racist!

It takes more courage and emotional maturity to walk away from any racist slurs. Most racist are basically irrational bullies, mentally unsound, lowly educated, culturally unpolished. Why lower yourself to their level? You do not want to deal with these people.

I know responding to racist might somehow give you an illusion of superiority, or a temporary heal to your wounded ego, but these are all superficial things. There are much more important things in life to tend to.

Just see them as barking dogs. Do not dignify with a response. Use your brain, use your intellect. Bravados without brain will only get you into troubles. Remember that.

Really speaking there is a bit of "racist" in all of us. But, some people use racism to demean other people which is not good. But since we all have been brought up with this mentality it is difficult to shake it off. If you are strong enough, then shout em down and if you can't then get away as soon as possible.

Most racists possess within them a bully mentality and the one way to combat that is to pay no heed. The truth is racists are to be pitied as much as they are despised. It must sure suck to be in there shoes..know you are always better off than them in that sense, and walk away!

Just smile -- and, simply, ignore... if you're going to track every racist, your heart will be wrung with misery -- learn how to forget more than to fight back.
