A little overkill methinks.

India condemns US for radio-tagging duped students

Hyderabad has seen angry protests over the weekend India has condemned US authorities for tagging Indian students who, it says, were duped by a fake university.

External Affairs Minister SM Krishan said Indian students were "not criminals" and that radio collars put around their ankles must be removed.

US authorities have shut down the Tri-Valley University near San Francisco, accusing it of an immigration fraud.

The university has more than 1,500 students and reports say nearly 95% of them are from India.

Most of the students are reported to be from the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and many of them now face deportation.

The students have been forced to wear radio collars around their ankles so that the US authorities can keep track of their movements.

Yes, the alternative is for them to go home. Guess what, they don't want to! These "students" who bought their visas knowing that they were not going to be studying at TVU (since there's no campus, no faculty, no living facilities) are choosing to remain in the US and lodge a legal challenge to their deportation on the basis of fraud. That is their RIGHT in the US. They will probably win their cases and be allowed to transfer to a real university. Fair enough? Evidently they think so. They could go home tomorrow. And I do deeply deplore the fraud perpetrated by TVU. That's why the US governemnt is bending over backwards to accomodate these people in spite of evidence that they were knowing, if not fully complicit, in the scheme.

It's humiliating for the students to walk around with them but the alternative is prison so really tough spot to be in right now for them.

That's the unfortunate thing with those looking to move abroad to supposedly greener pastures any which way, once they get duped life becomes an absolute nightmare.

cryspy, maybe for you it is a stupid justification...I suppose for the US law enforcement it is not...and they make the rules, you don't. At least in the US...;)

Anyway, I have to say, after having read the "rep" of this "uni", anybody who falls for that is not that bright...;)

OR has some "special" reasons to join......

True timebandit! Some countries are really harsh on immigrants. Innocent immigrants get jailed for no apparent reason; maybe reason is not being one of their own! Its very prone is Saudi, instead of deportation , you get jailed and harassed! The USA's measure is deemed to be appropriate.

another justification

comparing a democratic champion country with Qatar.

well done timebandit, i never expected this kind of your comment.

Better to be tagged than put in jail like they do here when they are preparing to send someone home.

Stop bloody winging will you.

understandable????

it make me feel good, when someone will come with stupid justification.

By nomerci• 31 Jan 2011 13:43

Ah I see. The authorities were worried that the students would leave before all is fully investigated. Well, that is somewhat understandable. Annoying for the students, I am sure.

the Radio tagging as per them is to ensure the monitoring of their movement so that they do not move anywhere else in US till full investigations are completed.

But this looks pretty silly considering that the students can now drag US Immigration to court. I saw interview of one Student, by looks of it it seems they are scared and want to return.

sandtest, this is not the first or last time a fake uni springs up.

I do wonder though why they radio tagged those students. What is the reason? They can't just do it, they must present a reason for doing it....anybody has read anything about that?

^^^ That University is a Fake...even looking at their website can reveal that.

I am surprised why US authorities did not take any action against those so called "University administration" first who are the main culprits reponsible for luring those students.

Read on other newspaper webpage:

TVU was founded by Susan Xiao-Ping Su and run mainly by Chinese Christians, with a few Indians in the faculty, the school boasted that its mission "is to make Christian scientists, engineers, business leaders and lawyers for the glory of God, with both solid academic professionalism and Christian faith, therefore to live out Christ-like characters, value and compassion in the world, to make an impact and shine as its light."

Is there a link ?

By sandtest• 31 Jan 2011 12:55

Yeah, Why not allow them to go back home and investigate the fake University that is responsible for this mess.

US will surely loose many well deserving Students & their Universities revenues in future if this news continues to spread.

must be an indian managed uni

By nomerci• 31 Jan 2011 12:24

How come there are mostly Indians in that uni?

And who is running that uni?

The americans need to grow up and need to learn to treat others in a more humane way otherwise they will find their citizens being treated the same or worse when they find themselves in other countries

If a little common sense was used they would realize that this students were duped by a fake american institution.

If they were duped, then give them their money back and let them go hoem or go to other institutions.

Only radio tagging or they implanting micro chips too. LOL

95% of them are from India... That sounds fishy to me also.
