Qatar Demography as of July 2010

According to CIA World Factbook, Qatar has a population of 840,926 est. And obviously, this population comes mostly from the expats all over the world. When i read more, i cam across this FACT (since this is a factbook)

"current situation: Qatar is a destination country for men and women from South and Southeast Asia who migrate willingly, but are subsequently trafficked into involuntary servitude as domestic workers and laborers, and, to a lesser extent, commercial sexual exploitation; the most common offense was forcing workers to accept worse contract terms than those under which they were recruited; other conditions include bonded labor, withholding of pay, restrictions on movement, arbitrary detention, and physical, mental, and sexual abuse"

Why am i not reading any of these situations from the newspaper? And i wonder where they got these "FACTs".

The population fluctuated a great deal, depending on the time of year. The new census should provide a more accurate number.

The local press is not particularly good at exposing this, although, as Nic pointed out, if you look hard enough it is occasionally reported. Such abuses are also part of the reason for the push to end the sponsorship system.

Yeah, you can click on the link and read more about it. Again, i was doubting the reliability of this "factbook" site.

What is this 841 K thing? Isn't it about double that number?

I believe this was mistaken with some other emirate!!!!

Actually if you do some research, you'll find all those situations, reported in the Qatari local press.
