From Manual to Automatic

..i have been driving vehicles with Manual Transmissions since i learned how to drive..the thing is, with less worries about the cost of fuel (at least, when you're driving in mideast), i think there are more options to drive with vehicles with Automatic Transmissions..
..has anyone here faced any difficulties transitioning from driving a stick shift to an auto.?..what did you do to overcome those concerns..?..
..i hope i can find some valuable insights on this, as i have learned a lot about other topics since i started navigating through the forums here...

ROFL Brit...the breasts to be used against LP?

@ choco - don't be so harsh on LP..i can sense that beneath those posts is a warm, caring human being..it's just that am finding it hard to comprehend what he's saying and already am being told by you and brit to brush him off.. 8-)

..would the fact that i might try to start learning the automatic in Doha makes the transition be more difficult..?..fyi - been used to KSA brand of driving, i.e., on a stick shift...

LP was stopped by a policewoman for dangerous driving.

The female officer tells LP, "Sir, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be held against you."

LP replies. "Breasts!"

soltero, relax. It's not that hard.

Use your right foot for gas and brake like you said. You'll get used to it quickly.

Don't put the car in Park unless you're at a complete stop.

And above all, don't listen to LP!

You better don't put the "stick" in "P" before you stand. If you do, you will hear a nice metallic noise.

..what's the effect on stepping on the brake and not putting the stick on park..?..or should i ask, for how long can you keep the brake before you decide you need to shift to park..?

Not much trouble with the change but my left foot kept searching for a pedal initially.

Please don't encourage Soltero. This technique is mainly for rally racing and requires lots of practice..

Plus it can be hard on brakepads :O(

Two pedals at the same time is called "burn-out", soltero!

..would be - is there a big adjustment to make like habits, attitudes, how you react, anything once you made the switch to auto..?

@LP - what happens if i mistakenly stepped on the 2 pedals at the same time..?..wouldn't it be much safer if i continued doing my fan movement of the right foot for the gas and the brake..?

If you have an automatic transmission, you can drive like a Formula 1 driver: right foot on the accelerator pedal, left foot on the brake pedal. You just gotta get used to it, and it will give you you a great feeling. (Driving like M. Schuhmacher).

..am not a clutch driver so the left foot may not have much difficulty with the change..

..but, what should be the attitude with the brake.?..when should the right foot be there and it should not be..?

..thanks, everyone, but is there anyone out therewho really have an experience on difficulties faced and how it was adressed...

The main thing is not to stamp on the brake as if you're going to change gear..

Second , make sure that the left leg stays away from the pedals.

Simple............

Initially, keep both hands on the wheel and tuck your left boot under your bum!
