Australian new born in qatar

Hi all,
I am Australian and i recently had a baby in qatar. My question is do i need to apply for australian citizenship or can i just apply for a australian passport. Help i've never done this as we're all born in Australia.

Any aussies who have been in this situation please let me know what to do

Congrats for the new baby. first change your profile nationality then only you can apply for passport for your baby.

Representatives from the Australian Embassy in Abu Dhabi will be in Doha on

Tuesday 18 January 2011 and will be available to all Australian citizens

who require consular or passport assistance. They will be available to

clients from 1000 to 1330 hours Tuesday 18 January 2011 at the Grand Hyatt

Doha.

Australian citizens who would like to submit passport applications or

discuss consular matters are welcome and should approach the main reception

counter at the Grand Hyatt Doha for directions.

It is important for clients renewing their passports or applying for a new

passport to ensure they are familiar with the new passport requirements

especially in relation to photographs. Information on the requirements for

passports is available at www.passports.gov.au. The requirements for

photographs is available at:

https://www.passports.gov.au/Web/Requirements/Photos.aspx

Embassy representatives will not be in a position to receive or discuss

visa applications. All visa enquires should be directed to the Australian

Consulate-General in Dubai on telephone + 971 4 5087200 or the VFS website

www.vfs.ae.

Payment for submitting passport applications, or for other consular

services, must be paid by bank cheque made out to the Australian Embassy in

UAE Dirhams. We can only accept cash in UAE Dirham, we cannot accept

Qatari Riyals or credit cards.

Please bring the original and a photocopy of all supporting documents so

that your passport application can be processed without delay.

You need to register your details on DFAT site http://www.orao.dfat.gov.au/ to get information about embassy representatives visits.

You'll need to apply for citizenship first then for a passport. Unfortunately they are dealt with by the embassies in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, however they come over to Doha once a month for 2-3 days for applications. There's an email list you need to get on to which is from the embassy, i'll see if i can find it for you.
