Salary Help

Good afternoon everyone. I have been offered a position in Qatar as a trainee project manager in the oil and gas industry. I am currently in the UK and they want me to come out by the end of January. Know before i mention the salary they will be giving me, i just want to explain that i have literally just graduated. So this will be my first job within the industry and hence i have no experience.

With all that being said, the company wish to pay me a basic salary of £20,000 (British Pounds) per year. Also they will pay for my accommodation and as well as a car, and all my flights back home, and also cover any medical costs etc. So all the above mentioned i will not have to pay. So my basic salary comes down to about £1600 a month (well just a little over). This works out to about 9,500QR per month to spend on what ever.

So my question is will that be able to provide comfortable living? By comfortable living I mean be able to go out to the cinema etc etc. I don't drink that much, but may drink a couple times a month. Also i am single, and turn 22 in 2 days, if that makes my situation any clearer. Sorry for the wall of text, but all help will be appreciated.

when converting from Hala to Shary, you can do this on the existing number:-) so no need to change your number.

When you get here get a Hala Sim card - it prepaid - BB works out to about QR35 per week on that system.

When you are a resident with an RP, go for the Shary post paid option. There are different packages with different perks.

For ex. My package is QR300 p/m - I get 1200 calling minutes and 200 sms's (which I never use cause of BBM) I also have one free local number I can call with this package - meaning calling that number doesn't come off my 1200 calling minutes.

I then pay QR125p/m to have my BB service. So my total is QR425p/m unless I call home, then its usually about QR500. I us my BBM to message all my friend and family back home and use skype also.

You get lower costing Shary packs with less minutes and such and higher ones. So its up to you, depending on how much you call locally:-)

cinema tickets are cheap! same with tickets for all sorts of sporting events

swimming - normally free (compounds normally have swimming pools) or you can go to the beach (for nice ones you'd have to pay, but again - depends... if your contract is with QP - they have a lovely beach club - so no fees to pay

Leisurely activities such as Dune buggy racing etc or swimming. DO they tend to be expensive? Also cinema prices? Again thanks for all the help :D

your salary is very good for that level role (in O & G) so don't think twice - grab it! I work in O & G so pretty much know the salary level for most of the companies, so you can trust me.

gym - if the job is with QG or QP - the compound should have all facilities, so you shouldn't have to pay gym membership

PM me if you need more info :o)

I wont be calling the UK everyday as I will use Skype or something of the sort for that. I just want to use BBM as all my friends and family use that, so the instant messaging should make me feel closer to home if that makes sense. The gym prices is more than what I am paying in the UK, so im guessing gyms may be a little expensive here. In terms of things like TV's what are average prices for lets say a 32' flat screen?? Sorry for all the random questions.

Grab it man as your first work experience!

for the gym; QR /1,200/ registration and QR /399.00/ monthly fee.

for mobile phone billing it will get expensive if you call UK every minute of the day. We're using BB too but we billed QR /500/ a mos. local and international

International call promo 0.55/min

your salary is more than enough because all major expenses here in qatar are given free from your hired company.

Yeah the car maintenance will be covered by the company. In terms of my life style im not really extravagant, i'll mostly go to the gym and try to look for some sort of activities to meet people, but my fear is that doing activities on a regular basis will eat in to the salary quiet a bit as i plan on saving as well. Also mobile phones (black berry) in particular are they expensive in terms of billing, as the BBM feature is what il be using it the most for. Any help on that as well will be very useful.

Considering the information which you have given and assuming that the car given to you shall be maintained by the company, QR 9500 is quite adequate for a comfortable living. Your monthly expenditure (with accommodation already catered for which is the biggest expense here)should not be more than QR 4000. But this depends on individual life style and may vary up or down as per your expenditure habits.

Hope it helps.
