one more doubt

hi all
i have one more doubt, it is
At the time of an interview, all have heard, every interviewer ask “introduce yourself “
What answer are they expecting. I know that it is for testing our language skill. But what should we answer for this question. What are the informations we should tell them

I don't have a clue if you or negative or positive towards me.

That is the 'beauty'of QL.

However, if you are complimenting me; thanks.

If you are not; who cares!

QL is supposed to promote Qatar.

Yet, the couple of months I have been on; it's all about who shouts loudest!

Shortlists my *ss!

I have had hundreds apply for jobs with my school.

Weeded out sixty at least only because they have been daft enough to admit they are qualified in something else. Usually; a BA or a MBA in something. They not realising their degrees are not ones that teach children at this level.

Then I got to those that 'say' they have worked with kids before and most said on their CV's; they had a 'degree ‘in Education. That will be 30 of them.

We bring them in and then we ask pertinent questions and surprise, surprise they know bugger all about education.

So then we get to the ones that have worked in schools (20 to 15) and even though they have stated 'categorically' they know about 'curriculums' and 'special needs' they still can't answer basic questions.

So we get rid of those and then we are left with five at most.

Then I have to make the decision!

Isob, it looks like you have no idea how HR department works. Why for god sake they would interview 20-30 people? are you insane? If HR had to invite for the interview 20-30 candidates, all this HR dept should be fired, as they have no clue how to select candidates based on CVs. Have you ever heard of short-listed candidates?

And for your information, it is not the questions that are answered, it is impression that is given. It is important to see the candidate's personality. And I think nomerci is right. No need to repeat your CV, and no need "to practice" your speech, but what you have to do is to be yourself and to try to PRESENT yourself at your best.

Well then Isodingdong, what you do is as far removed from debate as intelligence is from idiocy.

And yes, debate is healthy, what you do here on QL is sick.

Just look at your quote, how sick is that? But fitting, I must say.

And that , Isodingdong, is where I will leave it with you. Fighting with you has never been entertaining. You are as dull and repetetive as pikeys come. Bonne nuit Isodingdong. lol

First of all you do reply to my posts; as evident here.

Glad you don't care if I compliment you or not; we have something in common!

It is called debate Nom.

Something I thought was healthy and encouraged on QL.

nomerci

Isobel, if you would like me to reply to your posts, you will address me properly, as I do with you.

and it does not matter to me one way or another if you compliment me or not.

I am talking about the subject the OP was posting about, nothing more, nothing less. It went personal when you started to argue about what I had experienced. Let us not do that.

By simplecomplex• 9 Jan 2011 22:26

Duh, just relax and answer the question. Introductions usually start with the name, age, origin, likes, dislikes, etc. Of course you only need to tell them the relevant answers.

anonymous

Only commenting on what I have seen!

No, I don't know you.

By the way Nom was trying to compliment you then!

However, if you don't like the idea of me complimenting you; I can take it back.

By nomerci• 9 Jan 2011 22:20
nomerci

Isobel, my name is "nomerci".

And no, I am not in the habit of practicing speeches, as I see no need for that. Why would I need practice to talk about myself?? I actually happen to know myself quite well, so there is no need for "practice". Funny suggestion though, lol.

Another thing...have I missed something or do you think you know me? I am just wondering since you thought you know what I did or did not do.

By anonymous• 9 Jan 2011 22:15
anonymous

As I headed my reply with your name; I am!

I think, they saw in your answers (and this is my opinion).

Somebody who thought long and hard about the job, wanted to do their best and had practiced the 'speech'.

So in short; you had taken the time and trouble to practice. Had the *alls and intelligence to do that. They looked at your CV and thought you were worth a go!

By nomerci• 9 Jan 2011 22:10
nomerci

Isobel, are talking to me?

If so, very well, that is your opinion. Mine, as my experience ,is different.

And what do you assume they saw in me?

By anonymous• 9 Jan 2011 22:06
anonymous

Good one.

However, can I just ask; if you had twenty/thirty people for an interview and you asked them that question and they all started to tell you a story/anecdote or hobby; would you not eventually glaze over?

We can all come out with a practiced story or an anecdote especially one that fits to the job applied for.

Does it make you get the job? NO!

We all know it is practiced and contrived; most say anything to get the job.

This is why I am saying it is a *rap question.

In those answers you gave; did it really help you get the job?

I think they saw something in you away from the answers you gave.

By nomerci• 9 Jan 2011 21:50
nomerci

Well, it is actually quite simple. I have been asked this question every time I had an interview.

Tell them, in your own words, in a conversational tone, where you grew up, you can mention a hobby, especially if it is somehow connected to the work you do, maybe you have a little anecdote about something that happened to you, what your aspiration for your life are, preferably in connection with work, keep it light and conversational. It is not difficult, do not worry too much about it.

Oh, and I ALWAYS got the job I applied for. :)

By anonymous• 9 Jan 2011 21:27
anonymous

That question is a crock of *hit and one of the most awful questions you can ask a candidate ever.

It's like having a rabbit in your head lights. It is a nothing question.

They (the candidate) either repeat what's on their CV or make something up and you still don't get to know them.

If somebody asked me that question; I would say I have come for a job not a date! Or, what aspect of my life do you want to know about and how will you knowing that help me get this job?

I know some use this question to put them at ease but it does not put anybody at ease really.

Imrany, silly questions get silly answers, don't you think so?

Like "What answer are they expecting" by asking to introduce yourself?? Just go and Introduce yourself! WHO you are, WHAT you are, what did you study, what can you do, what you can not do, what are your abilities...

what do you think else they are expecting to hear from you?

silly question..

By Formatted Soul• 9 Jan 2011 20:52
Formatted Soul

just introduce yourself..be confident...and a brief about your experience and skills not more than 2 minutes..avoid personal details... Practice at home before going for an interview...be pleasant...don’t talk about the negatives of your previous job...
