Canadian to pay up to $1,000 for UAE visa
The UAE will require Canadian visitors to buy a visa for the first time to enter the country, paying as much as C$1000 ($1000) when applying from January 2.
Canadians must apply for a visa 15 days prior to departure, reversing the current regulation allowing them to enter the oil- rich country without a prior visa and at no cost.
The move is the latest in a dispute over landing rights between the two countries.
A short-term 30-day visa will cost C$250 and a three-month visa will cost C$500, the UAE. Embassy in Ottawa said on its website.

So let me get this straight, you guys are saying Canadians don't go to UAE or care to go there anyway, but the UAE will "lose" on this one because they have just pushed away people who don't even go there in the first place? Ok...
read again it is not 1000,it is 250, as a Russian i pay the same amount to get emirati visa,so what make canada special ? i hope all nationalities will have to pay,why us only?
when you go to get that canadian visa you pay money and answer all kind of stupid questions, so what make Canada or west so special ? i suggest you do some travelling and go see how people are waiting for a visa to canada or west in middle east and afrika.
s_isale. The normal work visa regulations will apply for work visa's where the sponsors will arrange visa for you and you will sponsor your family. That might mean that the families will only be allowed to join when the person has his RP and he can now sponsor his family. Unless the work sponsor agrees to sponsor the families too.
UK - will they be coming with a work visa initially? what about their family and relatives.
Britexpat.. As I have turned the Fabulous ... I will have decided to travel alot next year and Cuba is one my top destination to visit next year.
No problem I shall perrsonally deliver any thing you want to ye faithful..:)
O yeah the faithfull Candanians living in the GCC countries and have valid RP's the above visa does not apply. Its only for those citizen travelling direct from Canada..:)
How many of those are coming to UAE to visit. The only one I can think of as of now is Bryan Adams.
s_isale. The above only applies to visit visa's and temporary visas. Canadians who want to come and work here or shall I say those holding Canadian passports wanting to come and work here are exempt.
When are you going ?
Can you please do me a favour and take a shot putt to a friend for me ..
As per Qatarisun's advice, I am off to Cuba for my next holiday. Why do I want to got to UAE, where everything is expensive. No natural beaches, A land full of sand and Skyscrapers. From food to clothes to entertainatment everything is imported.
Duabi is best for the Sauidi I guess, as they call it there playground..:)
Canadian companies will lose more than anyone else.
All this over stupid landing rights in Toronto. The UAE will surely be the ones to loose out on this. Most Canadians don't know or don't care where the UAE even is. Dumb Asses.
Pushkin,
"The fee per person is $75 for a single entry visa, $150 for a multiple entry visa or $400 for a family (multiple or single entry)". Source is the official website "citizenship and immigration canada" http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/apply-how.asp
It doesn't look to expensive at all, and definitely far from $1000.
But it's ok. I anyway prefer to spend my holiday on Miami Beach in Florida, rather than on Jumeirah Beach in Dubai. Quite a big differentce..
brit, and why is that 'great idea'?
and anyway, I don't think too many canadians are visiting Dubai.. why to go that far and now to pay $1000 for visa only, since we have all Caribbean and Bahamas, where for $1000 you get 1 week all inclusive vacation: flight (they pick you up to the airport from your home!) + resort+ 24 hours free food + free alcohol+ entertainment. ALL for $1000.
Let alone Cuba, where all above you can have for $500. And no one will enjail you for one silly kiss on the beach.. Other way around, kind, sexy, beautiful cuban girls are more than happy to make your holiday unforgettable.
Dubai will lose, not Canada. Dubai is already down, this move won't make thier situation any better.
nothing great about it. Its time they stopped the free visa stuff anyway
Oh you aren't a racist you just make racist comments...mmmm
very good thing to do .
Canada visa is not cheap and expensive so same treatment back.
30-day visa cost C$250, very cheap !
i like to go to Canada, now if they see my comment i'll be ban to go there hehehe :P
its expensive to go to Canada...now cool down! im not a racist
cheers
'they can afford it anyway' - ignorant comment of the day.
who are 'they'??? All Canadians can throw around 1000US without a care???
Now that really is a racist thing to say.
That's not realistic...never heard such visa costs
We will see after few days who will suffer the worst.
Great Idea.... Eh !
