Something Qatar needs to think about...
Just read this article in the newspaper...
What?:
The increased migration of skilled workers and professionals from South Asian countries to South Korea, Malaysia, Kazakhstan and also Afghanistan and rising salaries in their home countries have hit heavily arrival in the GCC States, including Qatar.
Sources in the construction industry said even though a number of new projects are at hand and many more are likely on the pipeline in the coming months in the region, including in Qatar, companies are finding it extremely difficult to get skilled workers for their new projects.
Why?:
The salaries paid by South Korean companies to workers from South Asia are almost 1.5 times more than what is being paid in the region and hence there has been an increased migration to the East Asian country from India, Sri Lanka and Nepal, said an engineer who travelled to the three countries to recruit personnel.

So Qatar, its about time you took matters seriously forget about the salaries, look into the health benefits, living standards and yeah may be a better social life for the workers.
What does Qatar need to change, I mean look around, Family Days, Family ONLY, Visa issues, Sponsorship laws. You showed yourself worthy to host the World Cup, lovely presentations, strong inspiring words, but is it going to stop at that? Come on Qatar get with the times the neighboring countries are :)
Pl's give me back, my passport..... I want to go to South Korea. ;))

Qatar is not gona change anything. stop dreaming.
They wouldnt do anything without keeping the Qatari sponsors/country's side safe.They will still get cheaper labour from asian countries for atleast another 2 decades and they know it well.
Qatar needs to act fast. If qatar does not have Skilled man power for these projects, How can they find Skilled Man power for 2022, World cup projects...
I totally agree with you smoke. Many Poor guys can't even see thier new born baby for years because of the systems in here.
DeepB you are right and thats the whole point to this discussion, its not like they wont get people to work for whatever salary they get, its also the life they have to live after a hard days work which at times is even worse than animals.
Just giving them opportunities to call their families back home for Qr. 0.50 etc is not enough, why not let them bring their families here as well? Many cant even go on vacation for years!
Qatar should know by now that the world has their eyes on them, and just looking for opportunities to point a negative finger at them. Lets not forget the fact that the decision to host the 2022 WC could change if they are not ready with their projects by 2018 I'm told.
The salary is not the main issue. Lack of proper accommodation, entertainment facilities, government enforcement of labor laws, health benefits and general lack of respect is the problem.
Supply and demand..
The fact of the matter is that they are content to work with less skilled labour as long as the price is right..
If they don't get the labour from South Asia, then Africa or perhaps even North Korea are an option...
I think the sponsorship system would benefit most of the office people rather than the labourers. These workers are brought on a fixed salary and thats like standard for everyone, so even if they want to change jobs in the same field its useless, unless they change their whole line of work.
Ill find work in Singapore or South Korea after working here. salaries there for a professional like me is 3 times higher (net of appicable tax) than the salary I am receiving from my dumb and stupid company!!
Ask the locals to respect the expatriates; some of them still behave in rode manner.
Some areas still labors are treated in a bad shape.
All this will impact Qatar.
200% true n qatar shud learn from its own neighbouring countries n shud be open for tolerance of other culture ,religion n values......if not earlier atleast after winning the 2022 bid..we expect a change from all the restriction....

just abolish the sponsorship system , salaries will automatically increased,
coz the liberty of job selection for employee will threaten the employer to accommodate him in reason able package.
i would love to work in south korea! nongdam aniya.
It is high time now they opt for this positive change if not for locals(atleast for expats)
salaries of all the workers should be increased and sponsorship system abolished.it will ease expatriates difficulties
Maybe first start by giving the laborers some respect? And start treating them like Human Beings for a change?
