* FIFA’s votingprocedure at a glance:
• The 2018 vote will take place first, then the 2022 one. The vote will be by secret ballot and all eligible members of the FIFA Executive Committee can vote in both ballots;
• To win the right to host the competition, a bidder must obtain an absolute majority (50% + 1) of the votes of the FIFA Executive Committee members present;
• In the event of a tie when only two bidders remain, the FIFA President will have the casting vote;
• For any voting round in which an absolute majority is not achieved, the bidder with the lowest number of votes will not progress to the next voting round;
• If there is a tie for the lowest number of votes in any round, an intermediate voting round will be conducted to determine which of the tied bidders does not progress;
• When the final decision on the host has been taken, the results – without prior communication of the results – will be immediately sealed by the KPMG observer and the notary, who will bring it to the "Messezentrum Zurich". The notary will then hand over the envelopes to the FIFA President for the announcements.

Genesis,
Sure, I understand and accept your position.
I mentioned it because somehow I felt that Qatar's presentation did not represent Qatar’s position towards Israel as it stands today.
i shall not discuss Qatar relationship with Israel over this thread.
I was just highlighting some internet users perspective :)
I didn't say that. I was just commenting that Sepp Blatter and FIFA play politics when it suits them.
genesis,
Quite confusing the position of Qatar towards Israel!
It almost suggests double standards, or perhaps Qatar intends to reiterate these relations?
So Brit, you mean to say that only the so-called developed countries should be hosting the world cup and no one else...
Mean while, Arab internet users views are divided, as many over twitter expressed their resentment over a Short film showcased in the Qatar’s presentation that hints normalization with Israel

"I would like to see the WC awarded to a country because they can stage it well and can be relied on."
Blatter and FIFA have shown in the past (when they awarded the WC to South Africa) that this is not always the case..
I think USA will get it, but nothing would surprise me.
World Cup 2022: Qatar impress but USA are favourites...
USA remains favourite to win the race to host the 2022 World Cup in the face of strong competition from the surprise challengers Qatar following yesterday's bid presentations.
The USA promised bumper profits, Japan unveiled revolutionary 3D technology, Australia vowed to "turbo charge" football's growth, South Korea said the World Cup could bring peace to the region and Qatar appealed to Fifa to take a "bold gamble" in taking its cash cow to the Middle East.
Former president Bill Clinton emphasised the diversity of the country in a bid to underline the sizeable support that would exist for every team. "We can fill a stadium with home-nation rooters," he said.
Qatar's presentation, augmented by slick films, attempted to deal with the obvious issues surrounding the intense heat, highlighted in a Fifa technical report, and encourage the governing body to take the World Cup to new territories. "We know it would be a bold gamble and an exciting prospect but with no risk," the bid chief executive Hassan al-Thawadi said through a translator. "Heat is not and will not be an issue."
Japan promised to use 3D technology to beam matches to iconic stadiums around the world, where they could be viewed as life-size transmissions.

Not much different than my review earlier ;)
and try to manipulate feelings based on guilt over war or even the subtle suggestion that FIFA owes the Middle East a WC (It almost seemed like coming close to crying racism). I would like to see the WC awarded to a country because they can stage it well and can be relied on. If that is Qatar, then I support them getting it. But if it is not the case with Qatar, I don't want to see it given to them so that FIFA can be politically correct.
Qatar has a fantastic chance of winning. Australia said soemthing about 20 million in revenue from ads...Qatar quoted 35 million in ads.
Qatar are still in the running and I think they will get it. If they are not first...if there is such a thing as second it will be Qatar.
I still truly think that Qatar will get it.
These guys are impressive in the way they speak (not so much in what they say as you would have to believe that dreams are easily made into reality).
for a non-native speaker so that has to count for something next to Bill Clinton's Southern drawl. :P
agree wk, but i think we lost them with the virtual kangaroo video :(
Australia brought Elle Macpherson, they hold the edge :-P
lol
As if WC in Qatar would have anything to do with that. ;)
Thanks for the link Genesis. I'll go watch it
to watch the presentations re-run:

yea... tht c'd be.. the tym..
I'll tell you tomorrow ;)
so wht do u thnk abt it genesis?
Australia's presentation focused on advertising the country as a tourist destination & showcasing its many sport tournament hosting
Japan demonstrated breathtaking technology
S. Korea presentation was boring & shallow
Qatar's presentation was very emotional and appeals for middle east peace(the scene with the Israeli young footballer is already creating hype )
US... on the other hand , "talked money" & their presentation was focused on football and its economic returns
flanostu... we tried hard...ths will never get wasted... its been 92 yrs nw.. and we still try fr it..
coz we want you to expect "amazing".
i just watched the final bid presentations, qatar have no hope.
Thanks Nic ..
we will never know the truth, only the results!
knowing the procedures means knowing "WHEN" to act? Lol!
Do you really still believe what "officials" say after wikileak??
Yeah, right. But you never know. Some 'last-minute' presents maybe?
LincolnPirate,
The OP only covers the last 48 hours of the process.
the bribery probably takes place before that.
You forgot the bribery issue, nic. It fits in some places of the process.
the intent was not discussion but more to inform those who might be interested in knowing about the process involved in the selection.
the end will still be the announcement of winning bidders, right? Is there anything in particular to be discuss?
