Paris woman trapped for 20 days in bathroom

An elderly woman has survived being trapped in her bathroom in Paris for 20 days, after the door lock jammed.

The trapped woman survived on nothing but warm water for 20 days

The room had no window or phone so the 69-year-old was unable to tell anyone but she tapped on pipes during the night, hoping to alert her neighbours.

They thought the noise was DIY work and started a petition to have it stopped.

But a few people realised they had not seen the pensioner recently and called the authorities, who sent in a rescue crew.

Firefighters broke into her second-floor flat in Epinay-sous-Senart and reportedly found her lying on the ground in the bathroom, in a "very weakened" state.

The woman, who has not been named, had survived on warm tap water for almost three weeks.

She is now recovering in hospital.

"You could hear banging sounds, like a hammer, even at night," one neighbour told local media. "But we thought they were doing work at night. We said: 'They are going too far! They are preventing us from sleeping!' If we had known....'"

How long do you think you could survive under these conditions?

I was wondering if anyone would catch that. ;)

But the truth is, my wife is a lot more self-sufficient than I am. She's good with tools and she could get herself out of a locked loo, whereas I would be crying for me mum :P

Breakdown of families. Disappearance of community spirit and most of all the need for independence.

She was old enough and didn't had that much power to atleast break the door. But still she was lucky to escape.

Poor thing.

This highlights the plight of the elderly and especially how insular we are becoming.....

Yeah Tinks... it says the lock jammed, but for the lock to jam in the locked position she must have locked it. If she was the only person there, why did she need to lock the door?

as for your question, i think one day then afterwards, i'll go mad and bang the doors until it's hinges are loosen. or mine does.lol.

About a week, maybe more.. But a week I can manage without much stress. I will try to smash the door ofcourse rather than tapping on water pipes..
