Where r we heading to?

I know this is not first time we hear such news but its not for the good

"No kidding: 10-year-old girl becomes mom, dad a minor too"

MADRID: A 10-year-old girl has given birth in southern Spain and authorities are evaluating whether to let her and her family retain custody of the baby, an official said on Tuesday.

The baby was born last week in the city of Jerez de la Frontera, said Micaela Navarro, who is the Andalusia region's minister of social affairs.

Navarro told reporters the father of the baby is also a minor, and both the mother and the baby were in good health. Her department declined to give further details , such as the sex of baby.

In Andalucia, 48 under 15's gave birth in 2008, the last year for which the National Statistics Institute (INE) provides data. Across Spain, in the same year there were 177 births from underaged mothers.

so she can just be another link in the chain of uneducated children who add a burden to the Healthcare and social services systems?

I think the parents need to be prosecuted if they were aware (and I expect they were). This is not acceptable in a civilised society and just to be chalked up to the desires or values of the parents.

That should be prosecuted. In this case, if the parents are complicit (and I suspect they are) then they need to face trial and punishment if found guilty. At the very least, they should have to go to parenting classes, their children should be put into care or heavily supervised if remaining in the home. The fact that they are Roma and this may be a part of their culture is no excuse. This is illegal sexual behaviour and must be stopped.

And yes, Azilana some girls reach puberty as early as 9. She can always get pregnant before ever having a menstrual period. The early physical maturation of a girl shouldn't make a difference in the eyes of the law and we have to do better as societies to stop these things from happening.

her reproductive system is ripe and ready MEANING this girl had her period when she was 9 years old?

A normal child/girl will have their period around 11 -13 years old.... but 9?

Oh god!! what to say then?? That 10yr old girl hasn't left any words to comment..

If you read the reports, the sex was concensual and with the probable knowledge of the parents.

I would agree that at ten, she probably doesn't realise the implications / risks of what she was doing.

The parents seem to have accepted what has happened and will n o doubt help her through this ..

Glad you are discussing this..... thread deleted yesterday. Moderator shot the messengers. It was a low point on QL. It was a proper discussion instead of this usual banal and copy and paste tripe we get and for our trouble we got two threads deleted.

Have to agree with Flor.... 10 years old....rape.

How can you view that any differently TB?

By anonymous• 3 Nov 2010 14:45

No I can't say human ethics are heading the wrong way. The Roma have been living that way for centuries. The only thing that's changed is that we have the means to comment on their lifestyle.

By Rony John• 3 Nov 2010 14:45

what i am wanting to INPUT is not about this particular incident or girl, wrong ethics r on the rise everywhere

Pilgram can we say that human ethics are heading the wrong way

poverty to some extent plays its part but our ethos should have a greater say in molding the new generation

Ahhh....she's a gypsy girl....well I hate to say it, but that explains a lot.

at least in general. The mere fact that the boy's age was not SPECIFICALLY mentioned, it only means the burden of discussion should be on the 10 year old girl. For sure she doesn't know what happened to her!

It is speculation timebandit, but it's based on years of working with sexually abused young girls. I can remember a 3 year old girl who would habitually rub herself on things in an effort to "get off" and worse.

Rony, statistics like that tend to come out of areas with poor education, low income and high unemployment. There's parts of the states (and really any poverty ridden place) that have similar statistics. It's sad, but it's the result of no education and nothing better to do.

well TB agree with what U u say about minors but this is alarming "48 under 15's gave birth in 2008" in a particular place. Its high time the society (humankind) to assess what’s wrong and where it will lead us

we can't blame the minors, we are the ones to b blamed

on a lighter vein, lets blame it on the accumulated genes that we pass thru

Strong opinions flor1212, and you are entitled to have them. But I have had my say, and I will leave this thread for others to register their thoughts if they wish to do so.

are married off very young. This was discussed yesterday but one of the mods seemed to get offended and the thread was delated to all of our surprise.

Read the link the mum and dad of infant are both minor...........i really don't know how on earth such a small girl will bring up a child?

it's sad really sad

By flor1212• 3 Nov 2010 14:29
flor1212

one thing is sure, the girl was abused (raped) and if the parents tolerated the action, it means they condoned the rape! IMHO, not only the baby of the girl be denied to the parents, but the girl herself should be separated from her irresponsible parents! Talking about lost youth!

By timebandit• 3 Nov 2010 14:28
timebandit

Pilgram that is just pure speculation. But of course you could be right.

By anonymous• 3 Nov 2010 14:25
anonymous

I can't quite agree that it's a mistake. While I'm sure the girl and boy didn't know the ramifications of their actions I can't help but think that the girl was exposed to sex in an unhealthy context far too early. Probably due to sexual abuse.

Basically if this is two minors then a mistake has been made by them (Over adventurous perhaps). A big mistake, but a mistake non the less. The age is shocking of course. That's the end of it. As to weather the baby should stay with its mother and her family, of course it should.

There is no nationality, cultural or religious issues here, because I will bet a story just like this one can be found anywhere in the world if you look.

Hmmmm...

It was really a strange event last night.

- the MODS replied

- posts/comments when missing

- then post came back with (more) MODS explanations

My last posts went missing but after several F5's...it was back...darn that internet connection at home.

So..this is the same topic...hmmmmm.

If it's fact and not sensationalized...what's wrong with it.

By flor1212• 3 Nov 2010 14:13

and I just mention my OPINION.

But I agree with you, let's leave it that way! Good afternoon!

drmana, I think we should let this one RIP.

Although it may seem irrational what happened last night, sometimes one has to take into consideration that the MODS are human too. Not everybody can control their emotions at all times. :)

Flor, you missed a lot yesterday night. Lets leave the issue here and discuss topic rather than why the thread was deleted. I don't want this one to be deleted as well.

Reason only known to them?

By drmana• 3 Nov 2010 14:02

Flor, MODs yesterday did give reason for its deletion which was something like racial/ethnic integration....... something which no one understood. But that thread with explanation from MODs has been deleted too :-)

By flor1212• 3 Nov 2010 14:00
flor1212

you don't know why it was deleted. And then when I give MY VIEW, you were fast to say wrong, does it mean you now the reason it was deleted? If you knew, you lied in your comment. If not, how am I wrong?

By anonymous• 3 Nov 2010 13:57

I'd like to know the family situation. I was reading the book "push" about a girl who had 2 children (by her father) by the age of 13 (the book was made into the movie precious). It could be a similar case with this girl. Sexual abuse and neglect cause children to grown up far to fast.

By flor1212• 3 Nov 2010 13:57
flor1212

STATUTORY RAPE even if they argue that with consent. How can a 10 year old girl give such consent?

By timebandit• 3 Nov 2010 13:57

So then back to the MODS and Rockers ;)

By drmana• 3 Nov 2010 13:57

Wrong flor, that was definitely not why the thread was deleted. Try again.

By flor1212• 3 Nov 2010 13:55

discussing marriage at this age maybe still accepted (for discussion) but giving birth of a 10 year old girl, it's a little bit sickening. Just think about it, the girl will not give birth unless she made love (sex) to a male (in this case, also a minor). So for me. IMHO, such topic is not worth discussing on board!

By the_prince• 3 Nov 2010 13:49

Underage is defined by the law. Law is written by the people for the people, so, they might simply decide to change it!

All it takes is some lobbying, media, and a vote!

History is full of criminal acts that were legalized later.
