Half stories, half truths

Sanjay Kak is a Kashmiri Pandit who has made an evocative documentary, Jashn-e-Azadi, which captures various forms of protests in the Valley and traces the deep sense of alienation of Muslims. The word azadi, in that film, acquires a meaning far deeper than just freedom or secession. The concept of azadi is so entrenched in the Kashmiri Muslim consciousness that neither State largesse nor repression can restore peace to the valley, if their struggle isn’t understood in human terms.

If the mass media is only interested in generating hysteria, then the whole concept of achieving peace will never be obtained.
This article was a real eye-opener in the sense of what happened in the seminar related to Kashmir. There has been a clamour from the BJP and their ilk to prosecute Arundhati for treason. When will they ever grow up???

@ britexpat, she makes her comments to stay in the news.period. much easier than wrting an award-winning book i suppose...The God of small things was a fantastic book, brilliant piece of writing without a doubt & fully deserved the Booker...however,the same can't be said about her attention-seeking press statements since then...

if that were the case, there are many who will have to be charged for treason, living and dead.

Given her comments on the various topics, would you say that she was 100% incorrect on everything ?

Did her comments make you rethink or question anything ?

I would have charged Arundhati Roy long back for treason if I had my way. Not because of her comments on Kashmir as I no longer read what she had to say so haven't read her comments on Kashmir but because she justified the killings of innocent civilians by Maoists long back. people say anything to stay in news.. Since she can't write any decent book, she uses this to stay in the news.

The internet has opened a whole world. We spend hours on the net, yet do not bother to search, explore or learn..

Because we are too stubborn to believe that we could be wrong in our assumptions..

the worst part is - the common man rarely has a chance to hear the other side of the story.

Mass media everywhere is interested in sensationalism. News channels (papers, TV, blogs) are now a business. The sad thing is that too many of us believe the first thing we are told.

As the thread yesterday proved. We see things mostly in black & white and are not willing to open our minds to uncertainties.
