Lulu - Health and Hygiene
By Must_try_harder •
In Lulu shopping centre opposite Land Mark, I observed one of the guys packing shelves with dessicated coconut. He was peircing all the bags with a pin and squeezing the air out, in order to stack more on each shelf. This must have hygiene implications. Be carefull folks, it makes me wonder what other little tricks they get upto to save space!!
As a Catering Manager and Food Hygiene trainer, I was horrified to observe a man doing exactly the same in Lulu, airport branch. This was about eight months ago. I expressed my concern to him and to a manager but was left in doubt as to whether anything would be done about it.
Piercing the protective covering renders food open to contamination. Contamination is the presence of something harmful, objectionable or just plain unwanted in food, which creates a risk of illness, injury and/or discomfort. Contaminants could be physical (dust, insect droppings, stones etc), chemical (cleaning materials, pesticides etc) or microbial (bacteria, mould etc). No one wants to eat contaminated food and the law says that food handlers must protect food from contamination.
It appears that packets are pierced to release air which ensures that items are laid flush on the shelf. Shelves look neat and I suppose more stock is held on display.
Although handlers may be unaware of the implication of their actions, management should know better and they must train and/or supervise their staff accordingly.
now complete hygeine is missing!! so HOME sweet home..
That would have been worth reporting to the police, jack.
always buy fresh coconut :)
At carrefour City Centre... I saw the guy replacing the stickers on the bakery items thereby extending their expiry dates even though the Sandwiches were visibly deteriorating...
In fast food / restaurant staff always wearing handgloves, but they are cleaning the table with handgloves, sneezing with gloved hand...etc.
and I thought its only me who notices such stuff!
Why only LULU? Check out fast food chain, the crew is wearing plastic gloves to avoid direct contact of foods into their hands, but heyyy same hands they are using to take your money too! Have you notice that?
if not, you're info is with malice!
Yes it sure sounds unhygienic..will avoid!
This is cruelty.
I have also heard that they BEAT the eggs and WHIP the cream.
I will never buy Coconuts now.....:(
