Idiotic thief

If there were a burglar's handbook, chapter one would warn against leaving evidence behind.
It would also probably use Anthony Gawthrop as a case study for what can happen if you ignore this basic rule.
The 24-year-old managed to drop his mobile phone at a house in Cambridge where he stole a laptop.
Not realising his error, he later contacted police to report his phone missing - shortly before they found it at the crime scene, checked the photos it contained, and recognised him from his three previous convictions for house-breaking.
He belatedly attempted to give officers a false alibi and claimed his phone had disappeared 90 minutes before the crime but was charged with burglary.
The lies continued at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday where he claimed he had stood outside the house and used the phone to illuminate the inside while an accomplice stole a laptop.
But Judge Anthony Bate refused to accept his not guilty plea and pointed out the evidence suggested the repeat offender had been in the house.
Gawthrop subsequently admitted the offence has now been told to expect a 'substantial' prison sentence.
During the hearing on Friday, the court heard the house was burgled on August 28.
Evidence against Gawthrop included the presence of his mobile phone in the property and the fact that the intruder had left the lights on - making a mockery of his claim that he used the mobile phone's light to guide his accomplice's way.
Prosecutor Sara Walker added: 'The defendant's picture was on the phone.
'When the police were looking at it, he sent a text message saying "Whoever has got my phone better give it back".'

Gawthrop made a spectacular escape from the same court in June 2005 when he was charged with burglary and possession of cocaine with intent to supply.

He shoved a female custody officer to the floor, leapt from the dock, and pushed over three more staff as he fled downstairs and into an office where he was cornered by another security guard.
He finally managed to flee the building by turning off the light in the room and rushing out of a door.
He was last seen scaling a CCTV camera pole to clear a wall and running down a side street.
Bungling: Serial burglar Anthony Gawthrop was told to expect a substantial sentence at Cambridge Crown Court
But the escape was short-lived after he was found cowering in the loft of the house he shared with his mother.
The breakout happened after she berated the judge from a public gallery, claiming he 'didn't know her son'.
Gawthrop was given a three-and-a-half year sentence - the same stretch he received in 2007 after admitting raiding 13 properties.
After the conviction, Detective Constable Naomi Weir said: 'This was an unusual case because the offender actually reported his phone was missing before it turned up at the scene of the burglary.
'We're very happy that Anthony Gawthrop has pleaded guilty at such an early stage and that a prolific burglar has been taken off the streets.'
Gawthrop, who now lives with his girlfriend in Cambridge, has been remanded in custody for the latest offence and will be sentenced on October 6

Classic case of the thief who isn't sorry he stole, just sorry that he has been caught. Some people never learn.

I agree that this could of been posted in the funnies, lol.
