-break contract(-host broke verbal promises)
I am running into many surprise changes with what I expected from my host company here.
Please do not post any responses saying: "Haha, welcome to Doha." ---I don't need to hear that, serious responses only please.
If verbal promises are not met, and my situation becomes one where I cannot stay with this company, what are my options for new work here?
If I was able to find new work here in Doha, am I allowed to leave my current situation to begin work immediately? ---especially if the contract I signed is not fulfilling it's promises.
I know about the law that people cannot move from one company to another company without express written permission from BOTH companies (the company I am currently under contract with, and the company I want to work with).
I am assuming if I leave now, my current employer will not sign a "Letter of No Objection"... but, what about those numerous promises (unfortunately verbal), that are not coming true now? Do I have and ground to stand on, should I leave my current contract?
No. Qatar has a ban period of 2 years. UAE is 6 months. They are talking about reducing the ban period but you know how things work here... It might happen anytime in the next few years or not at all.
Wow. That's complete bullshit. :)
Someone I know who's been here for 4 years said something about only having to leave Qatar for "6 months + 1 day" to be able to move to a new company/new-job under some other "circumstance"... do you know anything about that? have you heard about any situations like that, that require a "6 months + 1 Day" duration outside of Qatar?

If the contract is one year and you do not accept a renewal it is totally in the hands of the employer if he gives you the 2-year ban or not - and unfortunately that applies to any contract, no matter the duration (1 or 2 years), if the contract period has not been completed by you. But the ban applies for Qatar only - so you are free to go to the UAE.
What about if the contract is 1 year. And if I do not "break" the contract? I just do not accept a renewal.... is there a wait period after that case?
Another question: If a contract is 2 years, is there no way to get "out of" a contract before that time without being "banned" for 2 years?
And another thing - you need an exit permit to board a flight out of Qatar...
2 years is the ban period from the date they cancel your work visa.
How about if someone just up and quits.
How long would he have to wait to come "back" to Doha, and work for anyone?
No thanks, I don't need your Bikinis, but maybe do you have a JOB for me?

dont talk again to your employer, he will promise you something new and you will believe it again...
it will take time to file a case to Labor Dep... better talk to your boss... complain about this... explain your side... then give your resiganation letter... kalas!!! its not good to work in a company of full of lies and promises...
Many people around here will either have experienced this themselves or know someone who has. Its not only in Qatar of course! but yes verbal contracts have no weight..breaking promises seem to be a norm these days,Audubillah! Heck, what with people managing to cheat even with non verbal, documented, agreements what do you expect, right? As for your predicament, yes as advised by others, try to talk to your superiors and if all your efforts are in vain you either go with what they give you now or walk away..but never be rash!Think over your decisions carefully,do research, and weigh your pros and cons..All the best to you!
If contractual promises have not been met by your employer you can file a case against them at the Labour Department. It will take time to sort out though - and you need proof that they are not complying with what is stated in the contract. Try talking to your bosses first - and then decide what is best for you. But don't keep any hope to be able to change to another employer - this is the Middle East and you need a No Objection Certificate to change from one sponsor to another, and that is normally only allowed after you completed a full year with your current sponsor. Good luck.
good morning saeed
Haha, welcome to Doha
:P
Never relied on any verbal agreement, it should be by valid written contract always.
Yes, thank you for the quick responses.
I will talk to my manager who is helpful but he also can only just "make requests" to the owners. I just am not sure of my options if/when "his" requests on my behalf are denied.
They need me as much as I need them at this point, so I am afraid to begin "less than cordial" discussions without going too far.
If I have NO other options if something goes bad, then my stance is weak if I make demands and ultimatums since they most likely know my options are small to none.
But I was just wondering if verbal promises were not met that would have changed my mind long ago BEFORE signing the contract, then that is truly a trap and brutally unfair....
...or will I just get the expected: "Too bad, life's unfair, you signed, deal with it." ---from everyone, including my employer.
get an appointment letter from a company in any other country and throw that on your boss's table..
if these guys really need you, they will give you what they promised. if they dont...get the hell out of here.
verbal agreements are at no use in any court.
First, try to talk to your employer, esp. the one who hired you. I'm on the same shoe, but what else can we do. Good bargaining should start it all. Have it in black and white then you can deliberately ask for it every now and then.
Best of luck.
