I am planning to travel to Sirilanka, any advise in which area to stay there and any hotel, please also share with me the fun and nice things to do and the bad things to consider and avoid,

it is a very nice place to visit.good climate, lots of shoppings, beautiful site seeing etc. for transportation and accommodation depends upon our budget.

Sri Lanka is safe place for tourists. Nothing to worry..
There are 100s of nice places. if you want to relax in beaches then you can choose down south or north part of Sri Lanka. please refer infolanka.com also you can have idea about sri lanka.
If you need a guide , always make sure that hire some one who has a license from Sri lanka Tourist Board.

Sri Lanka is a nice place to enjoy your vacation, you got the right choice, of course there are many place to visit in sri lanka. it a tiny island surround with beautiful beaches and the hillsttion too. dont spent much time in Colombo,bcoz it so crowd.Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya are the best place to stay, there you can experience the cool climes and Hot cup of Ceylon Tea.also a lots of Waterfalls and rivers. Specially now you can move to northern part of the country since there is no more war, Arugam bay is one of the beatiful beach in coutry.
