12,000 foreign 'sex slaves British brothels.

London, Aug 19 (IANS):

As many as 12,000 foreign women were smuggled into Britain and forced to work as ''sex slaves'' so that crime gangs could earn hundreds of millions of pounds, a study has said.
The two-year study, dubbed Project Acumen, revealed that prostitutes live and work in appalling conditions and suffer rape and imprisonment.
Most of the trafficked women were from Eastern Europe, China and Southeast Asia. They were under thousands of pounds of debt and controlled by threats of violence to family members back home.
The large extent of migrant prostitution in England and Wales was revealed by research for the Association of Chief Police Officers.
The study said that 30,000 women are working in brothels across Britain.
Police estimate that 17,000 of them are immigrants and believe that 11,800 of the foreign women may have been trafficked into the country.
There are around 6,000 brothels in England and Wales. Most are in London followed by Yorkshire and Humberside.

Daily Express quoted Immigration Minister Damian Green as saying: “Human trafficking is a brutal form of organised crime where people are traded as commodities and exploited for profit by criminal gangs.
May be another more 12000 will be added for 2012 London olympics.

Can't. But cities that punish the men for soliciting more than the women for prostitution seem to have more success. One town in America had this thing where the government tv channel put a man's name, photo, and address on the television if he was arrested for trying to buy sex. Prostitution collapsed in the town--that is until some judge said it violated the man's right to privacy or some other BS.

we should speak on the soloution.

there is solution to the problem of prostitution and sex

trafficking: Confronting the demand for prostitution. Instead of only warning women against

recruiters, stop the recruiters. Instead of accommodating the demand, stop it.

There are four components that make-up the demand:

1) the men who buy commercial sex acts,

2) the exploiters who make up the sex industry,

3) the states that are destination countries, and

4)the culture that tolerates or promotes sexual exploitation.

Where is the problem ? people are posting how bad arab,Qataris, muslims, others are fighting back. South Africans (whites) have enjoyed a high standard of living, same as in western countries if not better, so its a western country.

Let me not start yet another fitnahor mischief pointingat particular country region. The population of unfortunate young women who are called sex workers are more than the population of Dubai (including Expat), datas are avaible, so it is not country but problem.

Xena, I posted a news item of tribal women and about acid attacks on women from the east so it is not about bad talking in particular direction. The atrocites on women are every where, including developed, developing or under developed country, that is my point. Some threads are posted just to start bashing particular religion or country.

Thanks for your comments.

May Allah bless all the humanity and take us to right path.Aameen

Iam not from east nor from west , forth generation son of African slave. Now we all have to go on strike to help the poor women from exploitation. Three months in a year, I spent time with NGO's in providing help and support to humans with HIV. i know the sufferings of people in Asia, far east and in Africa, including Natal ghetos. This is not about east or west or about religion, it is about humanity, who is going astray in every part of world.

Now a days, it is past time for everyone to throw stones at Islam and muslims at large, but it makes us more steadfast to follow the truth as muslim it is my choice and as for others, the religion or no religion or which religion it is personel choice.

I love people of south africa, they forgive & moved on, salute to leader like Mr.Nelson Mendela. Your comments are 100% true. if we can go on strike for better pay why not for these women.

May Allah's blessings be with you all.

I beg to differ on your interests... Not being of East or West, doesn't matter as you are always only posting on how bad the West seems to be....

Do not take my words and twist them.... Going on strike is an example, and you know that...

What I posted was purely to show how Westerners take control of things they like or don't like... and that Westerners are prepared to take critisism, unlike here in the East where "offend" is an overused word!!!

Xena--Excellent post. I could not agree more.

The best critics of the US are inevitably American, and this rule applies to almost all Western countries. Unless you can identify and discuss the problem, there is no way to fix it.

chuckle everytime I see a post by Moonblues or Sillyboy....

The only things they post are disparages against "civilised" societies....

Is it to hard for you to comprehend Moonblues and Sillyboy.. that no matter how many bad posts you post about the west, we, the westerners will not get all high and mighty on you, because we accept that there are problems in our countries... Which is the main difference between the East and West.... Eastern countries have the kiddy mentality.... (or should I say Drac mentality) - I didn't do it.... even when you did.... You also have the "oh woe is me" mentality.... you throw a stone and when someone throws back you get all upset and offended...

In Western countries, we have the press to bring forward anything wrong in our societies - which we welcome - it gives us the truth about whats really happening - It shows we don't back down, unlike in Eastern countries, people just rest on their laurels and keep quite because their government tells them too and will lock them up if they don't...

When we are unhappy, we strike - sent the government into a frenzy cause we are disrupting the economy - if you don't believe me, see how SA over comes issues with strikes - Look at the UK - British Airways staff were unhappy with pay... they went on strike - got their wishes granted.

This will always be the difference between East and West... while the West admits its problems... the East buries its head in the sand (excuse the pun)

This has become more of a problem since we joined the EU.. Most of the trafficking is from eastern block countries now.

The gangs are abusing these women and they are being forced to provide a service to willing clients... :O(

Every country with money has this problem. Plenty of prostitution in the Gulf, including here. It's nothing new, and it is virtually impossible to make it go away.

Nevertheless it is sad.

Its not only in London or Dubai, it is everywhere. Prostitution is the oldest profession. No body can stop this, the main cause for this is poverty, if u can erase poverty, then prostitution will follow.

What I dont like about this concept is that you have to be 'physically' present to use the facilities.

Technology needs to evolve.
