IMMEDIATE HELP ( PAKISTAN FLOOD )
Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has launched an emergency campaign to aid the victims of the floods in Pakistan that have affected more than 2 million people and claimed more than 1,500 lives thus far. The death toll continues to rise, and with a forecast of more rain in the next 24 hours, many in the area fear further devastation. A powerful monsoon brought torrential flooding to the devastated northwest region of Pakistan. Over a foot of rain fell in 36 hours, causing flash floods and overflowing river banks. Officials worry forecasted rains in the coming days could put thousands more families at risk and will hamper relief efforts. Thousands of homes and acres of farmland were destroyed in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, uprooting entire communities and isolating victims. Many have nowhere to go. The country’s third largest city, Peshawar, is cut off due to the severity of the floods. The government Pakistan has declared a state of emergency. The floods began after unprecedented monsoon-like rainfall battered the region, sweeping away homes and forcing people to make the dangerous trek into the highlands. Landslides are burying entire villages and making it dangerous for people to move. Qatar Red Crescent in coordination with Pakistan Red Crescent is conducting a needs assessment in Pakistan and is providing help already. We are inviting all the Pakistani Community members in Qatar to come forward and donate generously. We will be expecting following non food items such as: Blankets, tents, pressed pillows, umbrellas, prayer mats, gas burners, torches and batteries, flasks, plastic buckets, cans, plastic mugs, new clothes (all sizes).
