Dear All,

Firstly I have just became a member so I can get your advice as I am very lost with what to do.

Myself and my Husband got married in Dubai, we have been together for 05 years, we moved to Doha 1.5 years ago.
We have NO children.
We are both European.

Last week he told me he wanted a Divorce, there was no warning nothing, he said he does not Love me, and that he will leave in One Month as he has another Job...

So, I will be left with nothing, I was a housewife, we have a joint account but he always leaves just enough to cover basic monthly shopping, the rest he sends to his home country, we have no house together nothing.

What can I do? can I stop the divorce? can I get maintenence if I want to stay here in Qatar, I can transfer my Visa (this can be arranged) basically I am going to be left with nothing... does anyone know a Divorce Lawyer? anyone been through a Divorce in Qatar?

Your advice would be appreciated at this difficult time.

Thanks

You may be able to divorce in your or your husband's home country, as well as claiming a financial settlement from him that will provide you with capital and maintenance for yourself and your children. Divorce is not dependant on place of marriage. I am a divorce lawyer at Expatriate Law Practice in Dubai - I would be happy to give you some free advice if you wish to contact me.

I feel Sorry for u,

I would suggest that u consult a Attorney in Qatar, whose of ur nationality, in that way he would have a very good idea abt the laws prevalling here as well as at ur home country.

Moreover he/she would understand ur life style issues better.

Ask ur friends for suggesting good lawers. Its always better to get proffessional advice in matters related to Law.

good Luck and May God be beside u at ur troubled moments.

Thanks for the Answers.

NOC should not be an issue, its just the fact that he has been planning this for sometime behind my back.

Are you sure that the Divorce cannot be done here?

We are of different European Nationalities...

This is all very new and confusing to me!

I just want to try and secure a payment at least to cover accomodation / car until I get work, I want to Stay in Qatar as I have made alot of friends and I am quite happy here... he is refusing to talk to me about this sitution and sadly, does not seem to care.

He actually can't divorce you except in your country of origen and you can contest that. However, there are almost no laws that would stop him from leaving you and never paying a penny. The divorce laws of Latvia will not extend to wherever he may be going. You could say that you will not contest the divorce provided he gives you a certain amount of money on which to survive AND an NOC so that you can stay in Doha. Alternatively you could approach his employer and plead your case with them. They do have the power to stop him from leaving the country. If his boss is a decent person he would do just that until you were taken care of. Was he hired under a family visa? Then at least you have an airfare home from his employer.

If you are both European the law of your countries apply. Nobody here can tell you anything. Unless you made the mistake and married a Muslim. Then you are basically fckued.
