Shipping a motorbike to the US
Hey everyone,
Im planning on buying a mototbike here in qatar, most likely a sport bike. I dont know how long I will be staying here in qatar, probably about a year or so, and will likely not want to part with my bike when I go back to the US. Have any of you looked into shipping a bike or item(s) that are around the same size (roughly 2 meters by 3 meters by 2 meters and 250 kilos in a crate i think) to the US.
I would also appreciate a source that I could check with myself if noone has specific information, but knows of a local shipping company that could give me a quote.
Thanks,
I have a cousin in the shipping business. He put me onto a company called Vanguard Logistic, Direct Container Lines, NACA Logistics in various parts of the world and their organization. They did not go on weight, but on linear dimensions (volume). I dropped off my own crated shipment of books and clothes in Newark, N.J. for shipping to Doha. It took about a month by ship (Ramadan slowed it down). My shipment was about 3foot, by 3 foot at the base, and 4.5 feet high. It weighed about 220 lbs They charged me 180 USD and it looks like I'm due to pay about 200 USD in customs fees. Don't know if there will be further tariffs or tax on my personal belongings. It is in the port right now, and I have yet to get word on how to pick it up.
I don't know anything about vehicles or taxes/customs on them.
The contact to discuss this if you think this is useful is:

See what they say.
Thanks for all the help
No idea. sorry
do you have any idea as to how much he paid?
Hi Casey,
one of my mates at work shipped his stuff and Bike to Houston using GAC,but am not aware of any customs regulations over there, sorry, I wish If I could help.
Regards
I sent those guys an inquery and they responded by telling me that you cannot import a car to the US unless it was manufactured in the US, which is totally absurd as that would negate the definition of importing.. any other ideas?
awesome man,
thanks.
