Mums-only expat group to hold fair

The only expatriate forum for mothers and expectant mums in Qatar, Doha Mums will hold a summer market on June 19 at the Sharq Village and Spa between 1pm and 4pm.
Around 2,000 shoppers are expected at the event, which will feature items ranging from jewellery, organic soaps, fashion and decorative items, baby and child-related items.
Already around 80 vendors including a few from Dubai have reserved nearly 100 tables.
According to the group founder and administrator Roxanne Davis, the vendors from Dubai include BabySouk, Just Kidding, Coochy Coo, Sandy Pants, Bubs Boutique, Dubai Gifts and Tipsy Gipsy.
She also said that new vendors from Doha selling jewellery, boutique swimwear, customised footballs, organic soaps and other items would also take part in the event.
“Our pre-owned goods vendors are selling toys, children’s clothing, plus-sized women’s clothing, brand new Estee Lauder products and much more,” she said.
Palmer’s Cocoa Butter representatives will also be handing out samples and free chocolates with every purchase at the event.
She explained that most of the goods to be on sale at the Doha summer market were not available in local stores.
“Many of the participants are independent artisans or import their items from other countries. The Dubai vendors, in particular, will bring very unique merchandise to the summer market,” she said. Apart from the main shopping activities, visitors will also have the chance to win prizes in a draw.
Some of the prizes on offer are, weekend use of newly-launched Jaguar XK and XF luxury cars, two gift vouchers for dining at the Sharq’s Al Liwan restaurant, one-month fitness membership at Spa Chakra, manicure and pedicure at Spa Chakra, 60-minute body polish at Spa Chakra, dinner voucher at Bistro 61, dining vouchers at Aroma restaurant and gift vouchers at Gourmet House, both at Kempinski Residences and Suites and small print gift voucher.
Representatives of Virgin Health Bank will also be present to answer questions regarding cord blood banking and will be giving away a ‘Mamas and Papas’ voucher worth QR1,000.
The Doha Mums library will also accept membership fees and book donations during the event.
Due to the limited parking space at the Sharq, an external lot has been dedicated for the event at Ras Al Nasaa which is right behind the hotel.
“We are recommending that shoppers carpool for the event as the parking is going to be tight. They can visit the public website at http://www.dohamums.com for an online parking map,” an official said.
“We are also suggesting that shoppers leave their babies and children at home if this is an option as the market is going to be busy,” she added.
Entry fee to the event is QR20.
