Armed gang rob World Cup journalists: police

Magaliesburg: A Portuguese photographer has been held up at gunpoint while two other journalists were also robbed at the same World Cup hotel.

Spanish journalist Miguel Serrano said photographer Antonio Simoes was held in his bed for 30 minutes while two thieves stole camera equipment worth US$35,000 early Wednesday at the Nutbush Boma Lodge in Magaliesburg, 120 kilometres from Johannesburg.

Serrano said "It was absolutely terrifying for him with a gun in his face. They were shouting: 'Sleep! Sleep!"'

Simoes lay traumatized for 90 minutes before alerting Serrano, who was also robbed as he slept, as was another unidentified journalist at the hotel.

Serrano said Simoes was talking to police and a psychologist.
