Why Virgin and Qtel did a public apology ad?

I don't get the apology ad in papers today about qtel launching Virgin Mobile etc etc. What is there to apologise about? I don't get how things are run sometimes. Only in Qatar I guess.

ntasa... why would ictQatar force Qtel to do public apology? I thought it was pretty clear that it is by Qtel. I must have missed something... LOL. You made a clear example of how Unilever has many brands to target different market segment etc etc... I got that too.

qatarama. Your posting made me laugh : ). Just so you know, in every country before the market was open, the monopoly always tend to suck as you put it. This is the reason why Qatar now has moved on to become a more competitive open market (hopefully) and introduce Vodafone. And virgin being a new brand, it just gives us all more choices... doesn't matter who's pocket the profit it goes into, let them compete. We the customer deserves a better service, better price, better saving, more value. So it's a damn good thing. If you look at it, Qtel is the somehow a catalyst to evoke govt to bring in competition... which benefits us the people. Anyhow.. I like your posting... especially the sorry CID part LMAO.

Only in Qatar happy, can you imagine BSNL ever apologising for anything ;-)

I consider it is very humble on the part of Qtel to clear the confusion with an apology...dont see any problem in that neither why it should be branded as 'only in Qatar'.

Virgin is a Popular Brand, offering new "productised" services, However will never have a network of its own.

It will only rely on Qtel Network infrastructure (through a co-branded partnership - let's earn together while giving our customer options to choose from).

it will be like that for quite a brief period of time, untill ictQatar decides to ALLOW a 3rd operator in the country.

ictQatar, forced Qtel to publicly apologize for an over aggressive compaign / via Virgin .. causing confusion amongst common people .

iow tried to dislodge customers from vodafone to a "new begining - virgin" and Qtel (in fine print).

looks quite unfair means to me.

example:

we all know, sunsilk/Clear . pears/dove/lux competing products.. different brands .. owned by one company.

no matter how you exercise your right to choose, but your money goes to unilever anyway.

virgin is not saying they are cheapest in the market..thats probably not thier strategy (to compete in price)but virgin brand carries a lot of weight as its known all over the world as a cool brand..so the younger crowd will like it i think

qtel is still cheaper than virgin. so why should one be going for Virgin

it was a third operator brought in into Qatar by q-tel without any approvals from ICTQatar...they have been heavily fined and Virgin mobile might get a life time ban to operate or provide any services in future in Qatar...where as q-tel is trying its level best to prove that virgin is not a third operator...we can clearly see virgin mobile selling their sim cards with their logo on it...no nothing from q-tel...just the series of 33 and 37 from q-tel....basicaly q-tel tried to compete with vodafone qatar with help of another operator...shame on q-tel :P rather then providing their services with low rates under virgin mobile's name i think i would have been better to provide virgin mobile's services and products under q-tel's name....they tried to do a right thing in a through a wrong procedure :D

it is because it seemed to the public that Virgin Mobile was a third operator in Qatar and the Ads were not clear that virgin is part of Qtel. Many people thought that virgin was a third operator and didnt realized that it is just virgin branded SIM cards.. I believe that it is part of Qtel's responsibility to not mislead its customers and by doing so things got more clear..

GO QTEL

I saw it too.its basically apologising to customers incase we thought virgin was a 3rd operator.,which they are not, they are a branded service offered by Qtel..just a precautionary apology i guess..
