Oryx: did the students elaborate on the "decent" dress they wish we would don? When I first arrived, I wore long pants and long sleeves every time I went out in public. But then I saw other people and I have relaxed my conservative dress policy. I'm not running around showing too much (in my opinion) but perhaps I am (in the opinion of others). So, any clarification?

Oryx why did you ask this question to only female students? This is gender biased QLing.

kbaisi - the article i think we agree was rubbish journalism. I asked my students what annoyed them about foreigners in Qatar and it came to two predominant things with regard to social behaviour.

1. Please dress decently in the shopping malls

2. If non-Q women are going to wear an abaya than behave yourself and do not pretend your Qatari when you are not

@ Icare are they as true as the as the way Americans are portrayed as ignorant rednecks who know nothing about the world beyond the USA? Those who define 'freedom' as being entitled to blow anyone's head off who they may perceive to be a threat?

Your post reflects exactly what others were saying in the other thread about ignorant/inherently biased people using that article to formulate an opinion on an entire population, interviewing 3 people of a population of over + 200,000 is not an objective standard to measure a entire population, of course lacking commonsense would prevent one from realizing that.

“I am Qatari, and this country is for me,” a driver shouted as he forced his way into a parking space that a Canadian driver had also been trying for. “This is my country.”
