American married to a Qatari???

I will soon marry a Qatari man and live in Doha. Recently I was told that once I am married and in Qatar that I will not be allowed to travel back to the USA or any country without my husbands permission. Can someone tell me if this is correct? I have tried researching this but have not found any definite information.

Also, if there are any American women married to a Qatari on QL, I would love to ask more questions.

Thank you

As somebody has already mentioned before, you have to be sure that your husband has a permission from the Qatari government. If he doesnt, your marriage will not be valid in Qatar. Also, does his family know about you? Do you know any background of his? How much do you know about gulf culture and the fact that perhaps he has already been married and that there is a wife there as well? I do not want to scare you, but you as a foreigner may not know all of this. Also, women here have a soecific way of dressing which involves covering the complete body and hair. So, although you are the American, you would be expected to respect his family and culture and cover yourself. The wife until she gets the nationality has to have husband's permission when exiting the country.Anyhow, if he is a good person, you shouldnt face any major issues, but I advise you to speak to him about the government permission and some cultural matters.

Hi,

Pls. read: Marriage in qatar site, as since he's a Qatari, then he's a Muslim. As per the law in Qatar, Muslim men are allowed only to marry muslims, not from other religions, i.e. i am a muslim, i can't get married to a christian lady here in Qatar, as per Shareya Court.

Again pls check this site and ask at the Shareya Court.

Good Luck & Congrats in advance.

if you married a Qatari Guy you will be under his sponsership till you got the Qatari cetizinship after five years of marriege by that time you can travil without any permission.

But he can sign an multy exit permit that can be renewed yearly.

Before you married to Qatari he need to get permission from minestry of interior to approve this marriege.

AS a french wonam married with qatari no problem to travel alone with my european passport.

but 2 things

*if your hasband doesnt like you get out the country alone he can go to the immigration to say you not alowed to travel alone.(must be with him,brother..)

*if you get the Qatari passport after 5 year and you would like to travel alone your hasband must go aeroport to alowed you to travel (the same if you get childs)

For more informations please call your embassy to explain your case.

also as a Qatari man all this questions your futur hasband know the ansers!!

also before to get married in Qatar:

2 things:

*you have to be muslim(get paper from al Fanar)

*your hasband MUST have the permission from the ministry of interior.very important to be legal and difficult to get it more difficult if his work in gouvernement(army,police,..)be sur its very important!

if you had all this forms just be happy and God bless you both!!!!!!

If you love him and he loves you then this is what it counts. But since you are moving to a new country you should know the customs and laws of this country. I would suggest to get in touch with US Embassy in Doha and know your rights in this country. I hope you are not giving up your US Citizenship.

All the best !!!!

Dear,

as per my knowledge about the situation over here,

first of all to be an officially married to a Qatari man, you should obtain an approval from the Ministry of Interior (Immigration Dept.) which it's sometimes not easy to.

about your question, it's know here that Qatari women/girls before they travel they should have the sponsor's approval (father, brother, husband ... etc).

so .. as i can assume as long you will be married to a Qatari man in official way (with approval) then yes you need something called exit permit which is not a big issue, this you can have it in a minute from the airport immigration itself.

Please do your homework. Google "Adam Jones" and read about his situation. There are many Americans married to Qatari's, but please be prepared.
