Qataris should need exit permits abroad
We have witnessed the announcement of visitor restrictions on tourists from the 33 visa free countries visiting Qatar. This is based on reciprocity: if a foreign country requires a visa of Qatari National, the state of Qatar will require the same. Fair enough! I agree!
What the government of Qatar has has not realised, is that there are many "wealthy" Asian economies who do not like the restrictions placed on their nationals living in this country, i.e., exit permits. Based on reciprocity, these countries have the sovereign right to impose exit permit restrictions on Qatari nationals residing in their country (for whatever purpose).
I do not know of any country that allows its "male" citizens to leave freely, but imposes severe restrictions on the mobility of expatriates. I think it is only a matter of time before we see some response from equally proud countries, to impede the mobility of Qatari nationals residing overseas.
Qatar is a great place to live, but I think this policy of "closing the doors" will only leed to hardship for Qatari Citizens. Sovereignty is a delicate issue, and it is almost always tit-for-tat.
I know Dr. Khalid Al Ali works for NASA . But, he was approached by them & still maintain working for Qatar Foundation.
Qataris who works for QNB or any of the international oil & Gas Joint venture companies in Qatar can relocate to any of the branches abroad
There have never been any record of Qataris applying for residency in the US OR EU out of the mentioned purposes, As simply they don’t fit the criteria.
@ bleu:
Maybe they want to live abroad? Maybe they want to try something new in their lives? Who knows? It can be for a variety of reasons. I personally am considering doing it for better work experience.
NOT... OK, who? and why would they want to?
I do believe if you treat others well in your country they will treat you well in there country.
LOL... Again. Diplomats and Doctors are different...
Has been there for ever and must have been for a reason wisely known by the authorities..
What i find amusing is that this is not hidden to anyone who is applying for job... so once this is known and one gets a job and starts working and staying here, then suddenly why one has a concern of this or that...quiet a thankless attitude I guess…
As long as this should continue or should be removed is not our say so why one should bother to waste time on this discussion...no offense just a though to relax the mind at least. :-)
I am sure that when the time is right from the perspective of the decision maker they will do the changes… ;-)
I rest ....
Qatari's are born to get work done through others, they never be employed ever in their history ;)

Qataris residing abroad are either diplomats, students, doctors
In residency programs, or trainees on the job.
Taxes and various government and utilities fees are imposed on us
When residing for the said purposes
I have heard so many Qataris are complaining being jobless while expatriates are getting offers here. They may think of going abroad. :-)

Why would we want to be employed in any other country?
Which country will employ them?

mean exit permits for qataris... how many countries do you know where there is a signifincnat amount of qataris living in a foreign country ? ..
LOL!
its good that people could run away during the recession times....:)
i know many of such cases where my businessmen friends didnt get payment in their accounts from the clients and in turn their cheques bounced. some of them were sent to jail and some ran away leaving their business.
if it had been qatar, all of them would go to jail without any fault of their own.
if you had your own business...you would probably too.
Well I was born in Kuwait lived there till Gulf war... I have never seen such a worst people as Kuwaitis are...
Once there was a time when Kuwait was safe... I know many people who were robbed in their houses...
UAE is also very big but it is not safe as Qatar is... It really depends upon size of the country as well....
In terms of people, Omanis are the best and then UAE, and Qatar come...
with reference to Exit permit law, visit the following link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Arab_Emirates
Read the LAW section
Oman is also considering Exit Pass (http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/oman/oman-considers-exit-pass-for-expatriates-1.62417)
Lets suppose that UAE has no exit pass, didn't you see what happened there.... When Dubai recession was started, around 1500 cars were found at Dubai airport without owners, many people used their credit cards up to their limit and ran away...
vanmost, nearly all gulf countries are very much safe as you have mentioned...as i have stayed in a few in the last 10 years. qatar is not an exception...but, countries like kuwait or UAE don't require exit permits from expats before they are allowed to leave the country..
Btw, I didn't say that Qatar is my best place to live.. I have commented on the post.... No doubt I love to live here but everyone has to see his future... U live here for 2 years or 20 years, one day have to go back to your country...
Yes I am Australian resident but why I am not living there because of multiple reasons, savings, security, etc, etc... Today if Qatar announces that they will give residencies or citizenships to expats as well on their terms and conditions, I will not go anywhere for sure..
So Vanmost, if Qatar is the best place for you, you won't go back to Australia then? (I assume you have an australian passport or are aspiring to get one).
What comes around, goes around....
Do you know why do you feel that Qatar is the best place to live?
Did u ever see any country where you left keys in your car and it remains safe till morning?
Did u see any country where people use to switch on their car while grocery?
Why females can travel in taxis without any fear?
Why people in Qatar can roam around safely in nights as well?
because this country has control on their population... When ever you look at human or civil rights you have to free criminals as well after giving minor warning (for e.g. Australia) then u cannot control crimes (especially street crimes) as well....
They know very well that there 80% population is expats... They have to keep an eye on them, otherwise they cannot monitor their activities...
anyway Qataris are not employed much anywhere else.
Visitors here dont need exit permit as well. So whats your point?
They may have the right, but it will never happen for obvious reasons.
