Kindle Vs iPad: E-book face-off on April 3
Amazon.com, which has dominated the young but fast-growing electronic book market for the past few years with the Kindle, could get its biggest threat Saturday, when Apple releases its iPad multimedia tablet.
The Kindle starts at $259 and is designed mainly for reading text on a gray-and-black screen. The iPad starts at $499, but with the higher price comes more functions: a color touch screen for downloading books from Apple's new iBookstore, surfing the Web, playing videos and games and more.

Reading this post after 12 years, and Kindle is still around. :)
Ipad is too big as a book reader and the book selection is too small and too expensive compared to Kindle. Buying one now when it only has wi-fi would be a mistake since they are coming out in less than a month with a 3G version.

wait until Apple upgraded the IPad.
nicaq, virtual dj is for dj-ing (obviously lol! juz kidding).
it is some kind of software that you can play and mix music. iPad will be a nice tool (slim, lightweight and etc...) compare to a laptop.

Quality dude! Quality!
iPad is kindle competitor. this give kindle a run for various reason. the ebook is only of the features and main feature with iPad. apple is introducing a new app store exclusive for books called iBooks, from where one can buy books alike music on itunes and apps from app store.
other than ebook it has everything an iPhone has. so this is clear winner over kindle.
for me i prefer my iPhone over the iPad.
I suppose no one can read a book for long on ipad. you can read for hours together on kindle. It is not at all stressful on eyes. I still will keep kindle as amazing technology.
Sony e-book reader is the best of all
Dont compare IPad to Kindle....
Kindle is so so low-tech. Its like comparing a landline phone to a mobile smart phone.
The images of Ipad surpass any display as it is Led display. To read internet or books or newspapers on Ipad gives a much much higher level of satisfaction than one could even imagine with kindle.
I could go on ...but I dont want to waste my breath comparing Ipad to Kindle.
Kindle was made for reading books. Period.
My understanding, is that IPad is not designed to replace kindle or any other e-reader. It is designed for different niche.
For once, kindle with wireless off can go for a week without recharging. I believe with Ipad, you will have to recharge everyday.
Also kindle (and sony reader) use epaper technology which give your eyes the same 'feel' as reading a real book. Unfortunately, kindle does not support color display yet. On the other hand Ipad use a derivation of LED technology (found in the newer HDTV) that, give a more vivid color, yet not as easy on the eyes over long period of time.
Of course Ipad has much more computing power and can do many things that kindle can't. Watching video or use as a tablet input device for instance.
So, I think they are two different device. One does not replace the other and you may want to get both....
Cheers

as you have said, it is an 'art' but could never be lost for those who loves to read:)
"Compared to the Kindle, the iPad would seem to have some disadvantages. The entry-level model is nearly twice the price of the Kindle, yet it can't download books everywhere. It can do that only where it is connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi. At 1.5 pounds, it is more than twice as heavy as a Kindle. And its battery lasts for just 10 hours, compared with up to a week on a Kindle when it has its wireless access on."
People still read? I thought it was a lost art nowadays. Kindle's services are limited to the US and certain other countries anyway. I still prefer the feel of the book in my hands . Will wait for the itablet to come out instead of the ipad. Atleast the itablet will not be restricted to apple only software.

in my opinion, I prefer them rather than those heavy books carried by kids to school. well, this will help preserve our trees from cuttin gdown to be used as papers. But hope to hear more advantages about this new electronic device.
