Effect of Claiming Car Insurance
Hi QLers,
I just bought a new car a week back (with Full Insurance from QIC) and and then my worst fears turned true as I got a scratch and dent on my car while parking.
My question is after I get the Police Report, should I claim from my Insurance or get it fixed myself. I am not sure of the exact damage costs, but i am estimating it around 500QR. The reason I am asking this question is because I have heard that if I claim insurance, I would have problems (or higher premium) the next year when I get my car insured. Is that true? Can anyone explain it more in detail?
Thanks a Ton!!
If the repairing cost is less than 500 no logic to claim from insurance you need to pay 500 Riyal to 1000 to Insurance company?!
first of QIC is the worst company to have insurance with .. but i know you bought a new car .. i donno but most of new car comes with QIC .. because of there policy .. they give good deal to dealer .. and then eat the customers ..
i think you should go and claim as it is your right .. if they give you a problem for renewal ... get no claim letter and switch to another company ..
If the scratch & dent caused was unknown to you, this is what will happen if you claim for insurance after you get the police report.
1) Pay QR 500/- for Insurance
2) 20% of the Spare part value if the car is 2yrs older (this may not be applicable to you if the car is brand new)
It happened to me recently when I found my windscreen shattered not knowing when & where this happened. It might have cost me around 300 to 400 bucks I were to fix at a private garage with a less-quality Windscreen but yet I decided to fix directly with the Automobile company as I felt ill-secured for many reasons for an additional saving for just QR 300 for my 2yr old car.
Your estimate could be correct at a private garage but not with the automobile dealer. Their 'labour cost' alone would be your estimation.
If my car is brand new, I would go for my dealer instead a private garage.
The Insurance company does indeed depreciate the value of vehicle each year regardless of being it having gone with a surgery. Unfortunately, this is very strictly followed in Qatar despite of careless drivings and the extent of accidents occur throughout.
Any how you have to pay the minimum return cost for a claim 300QR, and this will effect the Minumum return cost next year, will increase to 500QR ,as per KAIR insurance.
first of all if you will claim it against your insurance, you'll have to pay 500QR just by opening a claim (it is written in your insurance policy, for own damage).
second, your premium next year will be higher.
if the cost of the repair is only around 500QR or less, i would suggest that you have repaired and pay from your own pocket.
